    Pros

A lot of people really care and are invested in the company. Depending on management but there is often flexibility and good work/life balance.

    Cons

Benefits are ok but not great. Pay is pretty low in the industry. Too many people who have only worked at Patterson or have been here too long, aversion to outside thinking. Not a lot of opportunity.

    Advice to Management

Hire some new blood and look for employees who are getting it done. Don't be afraid to take a leap and be more forward thinking, less reactive.

I have been working at Patterson Companies full-time

    Pros

    • Relaxed atmosphere.
    • $3 lunches at Corp Office.
    • Fitness center at corp office.
    • Co-workers supportive of life events (ie. parties for birthdays, weddings, kids).
    • New talent is receptive to change, and has been a breath of fresh air.

    Cons

    • Stubborn, Old-School, Boys Club Management.
    • No maternity leave policy. Women are forced to use short term disability, meaning they receive 70% of their salary for 6 weeks. Unacceptable for a large company in 2017.
    • No paternity leave policy.
    • Many people talk behind others back when they decide to work from home. Bitterness from long-term employees exists.
    • Long-term employees pride themselves on not taking vacations, coming into the office during snowstorms rather than working from home.
    • Misiak, Guggenheim, and Anderson continue to receive millions each year as competitors pass them by. Patterson stock is trailing the Dow by 24% and Henry Schein’s by 100% over the past 5 years as of January 2017.
    • Salary for corp employees is consistently 10-15k less than market value. 2-3% annual raise is standard without consideration to individual performance.
    • Manufacturing 1920’s work attitude is heavily present here (time spent at your desk is more valued more than actual productivity).
    • Some people very resistant to change in the Corp office.
    • No 401k matching. Employee stock purchase plan requires you to remain with company for 6 years to be vested.

    Advice to Management

To the board of directors - Time to think about shaking things up at the top. Scott and Dental leadership have missed many market opportunities while continuing an old white conservative salesman culture. It's time to become more inclusive and representative of the markets you wish to serve.

    Pros

Not many 'pros' come to mind
    Flexible schedule
Great benefits and casual dress code
    Fun team

    Cons

Management is deceptive. They tell you what they think you want to hear. They hire for one position and then switch it to something completely different. Most departments work mandatory Saturdays (they will deny this in the interview). Honest communication is lacking. Raises and promotions are almost nonexistent. Management shows visible favortism. Directors try to use intimidation to get results.

    Pros

Good pay. A self starter will do well at Patterson. Some managers are good at knowing what is going on and giving guidance. Others leave you completely alone and expect you to figure it out. Really good employees will figure it out - but don't necessarily enjoy not receiving feed back.

    Cons

The company seems to behave still as if it is a small, privately owned company rather than a publicly traded one. There is a communications breakdown between several departments which lead to duplicate work or rework as full information hasn't been shared.

    Advice to Management

Get teams together to work out their communication issues and hold people accountable for not communicating information that effects other departments.

I have been working at Patterson Companies full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible work environment. Opportunities to work remote and flex your schedule, should your manager approve. There isn't fair treatment because there aren't any set policies; it's all determined by how much your manager and director like you.

    Cons

If you have any hopes to grow your career, you cannot do it at Patterson unless you're not very good at your job. If you're good at your job you will be held back because you're "too valuable in your current role". Mediocre talent gets promoted to leadership roles, so you can imagine what "leadership" is like around Patterson. It's almost non-existent. If you have any desire to grow as a person or in your career, go somewhere else!

They pay is also ridiculous. The turnover is terrible because they're constantly letting the more valuable people go for younger, cheaper college grads.

The values and vision are a joke. Just something abstract for leadership to preach, but they're not followed. Example: Innovation. Patterson executes: you cannot change the world by trying to be like everyone else!! Stop following what your competitors are doing and BE innovative!

    Advice to Management

It's hopeless. Management doesn't listen anyway, so most people have given up trying.

    Pros

A very diverse culture and the opportunity to learn from so many different backgrounds, ethnicities, and cultures. A close team with great comradery. Opportunities for travel and advancement.

    Cons

It can be very long hours for administration/management positions. Difficult work/personal balance. Logistics is still a "good ole boy" division of the company.

    Advice to Management

Always remain fair and consistent. This is across the board, from hours expected, pay, promotions, disciplinary, to praises. It can be confusing sometimes.

I have been working at Patterson Companies full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

This is a great company to be a share holder of. It seems that their focus is on making the shareholders money by treating their employees like they are the expendable tools that are used to do so.

    Cons

The salaries are extremely low for the industry. There is plenty of corporate bureaucracy to make your job more challenging than it needs to be.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees like you want to retain the. All of the top talent leave because salaries are too low, or the job is too burdensome.

    Pros

Flexible work hours, good work/life balance, great benefits, no micro-managing

    Cons

Takes years to start making good money, tough working with dentists (cheap, mom & pop customers), pressure to sell certain product lines

    Advice to Management

Done't let the competion dictate the culture of the company
