    Pros

Clean work place, takes compliance seriously. Working to be better everyday.

    Cons

Lower on the payscale for employees, not exactly where people go to make the big bucks.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work.

I have been working at Patterson Companies full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Managers seem to actually care about the employees and do anything to help out.
    Training is VERY extensive
Overall attitude is great with other employees
Coworkers are very friendly and willing to help out

    Cons

1' of snow/ice over 65 cars in the ditch in a 20 mile span of I-70 around Effingham, still required to come into work. That's really the only complaint I have so far

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the great work

    Pros

    - Good Culture
    -Good Benefits
    -Great People
    -Good business model/competitive advantage
Overall a great place to work as you have the ability to really drive change and help shape the business.

    Cons

-Not very much room for upward movement unless you want to relocate or get into a full blown sales role.

    Advice to Management

I have no advice to management as the cons are what they are and it is not possible to change that. Upper management is very fiscally responsible and their vision of the future is sustainable and relevant. I feel as though this company truly has it together and is setup for long term success.

I have been working at Patterson Companies full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Work/life balance
    Patterson culture
Improvements to IT systems and infrastructure ongoing
    Supportive management
    Poised for growth
HR starting to take a more active roll in supporting managers/employees

    Cons

There is some "old boy" network still around, even though they have eliminated many of these people
Business still feels they can dictate to IT (this has been improving over the past couple of years)
Salary is a little low, but the work/life balance and other benefits offset this to a large degree

    Advice to Management

You have a lot of people behind you who believe in the direction the company is heading. Make sure you stay engaged with your employees! The Patterson culture is special and unique. Take the time to cultivate it and help it become even better!

    Pros

The company has great culture and a true sense of community. I know the people sitting next to me in my meetings everyday and genuinely feel that my manager cares for my growth, both personally and professionally.

    Cons

The on boarding process can be a little tricky. There isn't a lot of information for new hires, so you will need to find someone you trust and lean on them for support. Luckily everyone has been through it and is more than happy to help you

    Advice to Management

Better on boarding process for new hires

I have been working at Patterson Companies full-time

    Pros

    -Great people and collaborative culture
    -Focussed on getting things done
-Opportunities to get involved in exciting projects (you must look for them)
-IT is continuing to move more towards agile methodologies; some areas already there.
    -Overall lean running operation
    -Work life balance
    -Subsidized lunches

    Cons

-Sometimes too focussed on getting things done, and not enough time spent on the vision and roadmap of products and solutions.
-401k has no company match, and there are yearly fees
-Profit sharing starts after a year plus, and takes another 5 years to vest. It should start immediately, and add another year to vest if needed. This way you give new employees skin in the game right away, and drive engagement in the company's future right out of the gate.

    Advice to Management

Rely on your individual contributors to work the details and solve the problems. You should focus on business relationship management, roadmapping, resource management, and communication. Too often the upper management is getting involved in the details, which means there is a gap in leadership and communication. IT leadership needs to continue to focus on building trust with the business leadership. We are all one company, and are partners in its success. Overall it is a good management crew.

    Pros

    Cons

Moving to Minnesota in the spring. With the move, many long time employees feel they were not shown the loyalty that they gave Patterson all these years

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work

I have been working at Patterson Companies (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great work-life balance, reasonable PTO, flexible work environment, ESOP, etc. Management cares about the employees personally and not just professionally.

    Cons

Sometimes there is a disconnect between what the company used to be (100+ years as a sales organization) and the need to be agile and flexible in the modern technology age.
