Five Stars for the first 6 month and then the Kool-Aid wore off

      Pros

Constant performance indicators so you know where you stand Lots of small raise opportunities and performance reviews in the first year Full visibility of pay structure (pay for performance) Management is supportive of improving employee performance Non-union warehouse that supports cross training opportunities Non competitive environment that supports teamwork.

      Cons

Employees cheat to make their performance look better, management is aware but doesn't do anything to fix the issue. Outdated, old technology with nothing new in sight Upper Management listens to employee ideas and then pitches them as their own ideas, rather than giving credit where credit is due. Retention rates are high, if you want to be promoted or move forward, you are out of luck! Bullying is prominent and management does nothing to stop it, the people who are bullies have been around for a long time and "that is just the way they are and everyone needs to conform and deal with it." No opportunities for raises outside of the performance review structure, after the first year the raise opportunities are few and far between. Start at minimum wage, not very many exceptions.

It's been a stable job I can count on.

      Pros

It offers stocks and sometimes a yearly bonus granted the conditions are met. Insurance for full time with options for family coverage. Steady work.

      Cons

Pay is not at a satisfactory average for same job types nationally. Yearly raises are far under cost of living unless you're part of any upper management then the salary range is ridiculously high. Have asked for better raises in the past only to have the branch manager tell me he's happy with what he makes why aren't I happy with mine. I make mid 50'sK a year while his is in the mid 6 figure range. It's very defeating. Not much recognition for a job well done. Will hear about what's wrong. No communication. No one bothers to talk with others involved in similar job duties.

Poor Management and unfair work practices unless your a salesman

      Pros

Service Techs, inside branch employees are great hardworking and always willing to help. Great product line with great support from vendors. Service Manager was great.

      Cons

Unless you are in sales do not expect to be treated fairly or with respect from upper management. Have seen salesmen and one equipment rep. pitch fits, cuss and scream at inside branch employees and service techs to the point of having some female employees in tears with little or no consequences for there actions and they do not take responsibility for there actions. Basically if your a top producing salesman or equipment rep. you can get away with murder.

      Pros

In this bldg there unfortunately no positive things to say. Everyone is very unhappy due to the new management. It's a very mean harassment environment

      Cons

The two new upper management have managed to make our bldg a high stress borderline hostile environment. They put on a show of niceness and concern when they need to but when nobody is in the bldg from corporate they treat us horribly. Feels like elementary school. My belief would be 90% of us are looking for other work.

If you want to be mediocre...work for Patterson Dental

      Pros

People that I worked with, for the most part.

      Cons

Good ol' Boys Club Fraternity, Management, lack of training for employees, lack of morale from the top down, YouTube video is what they live by, Start With "WHY" was introduced to the company by me, its all about SALES, SALES, SALES...not the employees, internal staff are treated and paid unfairly, Service Techs are completely overrated, they pay Midwest wages in California, a 35 year tenured employee making $53000 is absurd, management putting Operations team in jeopardy by making illegal sales against Sarbanes Oxley rules and gets to keep their job, company is WAAAAY behind in technology within the branches, they still use DOS , they have been trying to launch SAP for 3 years now and even created a new team to implement the software, they are perfectly fine with mediocre sales reps and way under performing sales reps....this is why the Sunnyvale Branch closed down, at their big conventions upper management executives from the CEO down are getting smashed on alcohol and stumbling out of the bar, having multiple "reorganizations" or "layoffs" that affected so many great, talented and loyal individuals. There is no room for growth in any of the positions that you get hired for. Prepare to be stagnant and get stale. This list of CONS can go on and on.......

Few pro's- MANY con's with field technician position.

      Pros

work / life balance. independence. some good co-workers.

      Cons

well below industry standard pay- entry-level pay for mid-career professionals- no growth opportunity for field positions - very poor merit raises (less than 1%) - lots of inefficient "big company" red tape and clutter to deal with (SAP, multiple convoluted expense reporting systems, parts procurement, IT resolution...) poor field vehicle choices (one-wheeled drive mini van for new england winters?) upper management seems to get paid very well but hourly emps have to fight for pennies. field techs are expected to complete huge range of tasks that would normally require proper licensing (high voltage wiring, construction services...) high technician turn-over rate.

      Career ending company

      Oct 31, 2014 - Service Technician

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Good starting pay. Company vehicle (if you're lucky). Decent benefits and investment options after six months of employment. Branch was close to home.

      Cons

Leadership is ineffective and spineless. If diplomacy is your second major, then you will be a shoe in for the position as this is a "good ol' boy" environment. Leadership will not defend technicians when dealing with doctors. The doctors complain about every little detail of work being performed and are constantly micro-managing projects when their desires have already been address through technical drawings and contractual agreements. Seniority means nothing when management assigns personnel to job assignments. Technicians are expected to have at least 5 different bosses. The dispatcher, accounts payable, supply coordinators, peer technicians, operations manager, and branch manager. Not to mention the doctors and their office administrators. No one communicates and everyone expects you to be at their beckon call. If you are a veteran, you will be a workhorse despite any technical proficiency you may have. Received several injuries due to lack of training and senior techs brushed it off and laughed, while upper management only comply with doctor notes to avoid legal ramifications. They will let personnel go at a drop of a hat, with no explanation, and then black ball any attempt at trying to gain employment or even attempt to block unemployment benefits. I had great expectations with this company but found out quickly that they are more worried about the money than the people who can either make or break them.

      Pros

The benefits at Patterson are good compared to other companies. Plenty of PTO, Holiday, and Volunteer time off and management is flexible.

      Cons

Everything in this company is crashing. Upper management does not care about the employees. It's a toxic environment. Over worked, underpaid.
