I worked at PayPal full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Free soft drinks and good benefits that start on day one

    Cons

Work environment seems like middle school; discriminatory practices; team leaders are untrustworthy and unprofessional; issues reprimands and you have no knowledge of them until weeks or months later but most importantly they may be for the dumbest things that are normal forms of self expression; you have to bid on a work shift; lacks leadership and implementation of policies in a uniform manner.

    Advice to Management

Advice to corporate, get rid of or retrain the management and team leaders at the Hunt Valley location, this is why you have a high turnover rate. Of course there is going to be some level of staff turnover but you are losing good employees and retaining some not so good ones. In addition, there should also be urinalysis for drug use as part of the employment process because there are several employees that either come to work high and some that even do while at work. Two team leaders in particular, Stan and Kate, are very unprofessional and untrustworthy; both will blatantly lie on you for no apparent reason. Coming to the job with two graduate degrees and several years management experience, I clearly witnessed many things that were not properly handled along with gaps in implementation of best practices. I would not recommend this employer to anyone. This is definitely a job for people that do not have a lot of options in regards to employment.

I worked at PayPal full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Great benefits, pay, and compensation.

    Cons

    Micromanagement through technology and policies.
Too much change which causes 'change fatigue'.
People in supervision/management who have no idea what they are doing and rule through intimidation.

    Advice to Management

Stop the micromanagement though technology (Kronos) and policies (e.g. - attendance).
Reward longevity and loyalty - I had over 15 years with the company and was told that my experience really meant nothing and my position would be replaced through outsourcing. I was unable to move up to a better position as there really wasn't much of a career path in the department, and I also believe my age was a factor.
The 'unique' working environment at PayPal is just plain 'weird' compared to most other companies - the lack of a decent dress code which leads people to have less than a professional appearance at work, having games and toys on desks, having way too many meetings, company webcasts that are a showcase of a 'mutual admiration society' for upper management and a lot of 'business speak' that means nothing to the average employee.
Stop trying to change PayPal into American Express Lite by bringing a lot of management, policies, etc., from AMEX -- oops, too late.
