I worked at PayPal full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Good work/life balance for teams that do not affect PayPal's bottom line.
    - CEO is a great guy with a solid vision for the company.
    - Good perks. Free soda, lots of events, technology training courses.
    - If you can keep up with the high work demands, there is good upward mobility up to a certain point.

    Cons

    - If you work on one of the critical back-end teams, you can kiss your weekends goodbye. It's very common to see people in the office until 7, sometimes as late as 10 for a deployment hand-off to an India team.
    - Mediocre culture (perks != culture). Although overall there is diversity, individual teams hire people like themselves (diversity != inclusiveness)
    - Non-flexible work for engineers. They always assign more work than is feasible to complete. They expect people to work at a constant output all of the time.
    - Managers may ask you to do extra on top of your work, which can be rewarding for your career, but is mostly to help the managers look better in their fight to look good.
    - Because everyone is overworked, team members are too busy to train new hires.

    Advice to Management

Don't get caught up in the petty battles to impress your boss. Or, if you do, don't involve those working under you.

I have been working at PayPal full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Inspiring vision and mission
    Great brand and culture
    Great work/life balance
Products that touch both consumers and merchants
    Global footprint

    Cons

    Quite big and therefore bureaucratic
Slow to move; lacking real bias for action
Hasn't integrated acquisitions well (PP Sales can act as gatekeepers for others like Braintree, Venmo, etc)

    Advice to Management

Create incentives to motivate more agile action within Prod/Eng.
Create incentives and structures so that PP and Braintree teams work better together - too much friction as it stands.

I have been working at PayPal full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good healthcare. Four week sabbatical after 5 years of employment. Provide 8 hours off for volunteer work and have a matchng gift program .

    Cons

Little ongoing training or mentoring for processes that are constantly changing. Supervisors don't know the workflows and can not provide guidance. Quality is based on opinions and not the correct decisions. Favoritism runs amuck. They have taken away many of the programs that made this a good and fun place to work. It is an unprofessional and very stressful environment. High attrition rate with good people leaving the company daily because they are treated so poorly.

    Advice to Management

Be an advocate for the people in the trenches, find out why people of leaving.

I have been working at PayPal full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    The benefits are highly competitive.

    Cons

Management is very cliquey and most times lack the analytical skills necessary to make logical business decisions. There is still very much a 'good 'ol boys/girls club' presence, which makes it difficult for those who actually possess marketable skills to move forward in the company.

    Advice to Management

Clean house and find management who not only talk the talk, but also walk the walk.
