I worked at Peace Corps full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

This is a highly special place to work. You will have amazing colleagues and a strong feeling of commitment to the mission of Peace Corps. In many ways, you can see how your work contributes to the overall mission and can derive great satisfaction from this.

    Cons

The biggest downside in inconsistency across management units. Having worked in multiple units, the professionalism and support for staff varies greatly depending on who you work for. Some very strong leaders and some truly awful. Highly recommend you learning about your team environment before accepting a position.

    Advice to Management

Be careful with selecting and supervising your senior management - it matters so much to staff how they are treated by their senior managers and there are some serious weaknesses.

I worked at Peace Corps full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I loved my villages and working along side my counterparts.

    Cons

The site development was a mess. Basics such as access to clean water, regular market days, reliable transportation, and poor communications were troubling. Many other volunteers were there for a two year vacation with little work invested in their communities. Alcoholism is pervasive with volunteers. No accountability.

    Advice to Management

Abide by your threats with bad actors. Also do reliable checks on sites BEFORE volunteers get there.

    Pros

Great way to represent your country, challenge yourself, and gain grassroots experience abroad
