I worked at Peace Corps full-time

    Pros

The hardest best job I have ever had. Unforgettable work experience and friends. Tough to start, tough to end but it is the ride of a lifetime.

    Cons

Pre-service Training must improve to a whole new level. Must have successful RPCVs as full time employees at the training center who can share you real world/life experience.

I have been working at Peace Corps full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great life experiences, able to travel, and learn about a new culture. Gives opportunities to people who are interested in international jobs and great networking tools.

    Cons

2 year commitment. If you are a person that likes to know what you are doing peace corps is not for you. You create all your own materials.

I worked at Peace Corps full-time

    Everyone's experiences are different.

I worked at Peace Corps (More than a year)

    Pros

Peace Corps fosters a very supportive work environment and volunteer community. They rigorously prepare volunteers during training to move into their new communities and workplaces.

    Cons

The high turnover of American Peace Corps staff can make for some rocky transitions for Volunteers and local staff. Peace Corps would be a much more effective and stable agency if there were opportunities for staff to stay in positions longer.

    Advice to Management

Peace Corps advertising focuses heavily on the work/career part of volunteering, but the community work and relationships building is more important and rewarding. Managers should stress the value of "2nd and 3rd goal" projects more during training.
