I have been working at Pediatric Home Service full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Such a positive company who cares deeply about helping their patients thrive at home with their families. PHS cares greatly about their employees and their satisfaction as well. Great customer service to all they encounter. Very committed to their mission and values and decision making within company matches this. Committed to excellence in all they do! Most rewarding RN job I've ever held. Great support and training to nurses working solo in field.

    Cons

Definitely many more pro's than con's, but a few con's that simply come with home care nursing in general...
Driving distance to homes throughout metro.
    Instability of schedule at times.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the awesome work on planning events/CEUs to bring field nurses together to boost company spirit and morale amongst nurses working solo out there.

I worked at Pediatric Home Service full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Rolling bonus based on hours worked, paid time off accrual, 401k, and decent health care and dental coverage. Electronic charting was nice.

    Cons

There is a huge disconnect between field nurses and the office. When I left I felt like just another number, not a valued member of a team.

I have been working at Pediatric Home Service part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The support offered for field nurses is excellent and eased my anxiety over providing care to medically fragile children in their homes. I felt orientation training was designed effectively to support my success in practice. It was also good to have a week in the office to see operations and to meet the people who make it all possible. Without the scheduling coordinators, support staff, case managers and leadership our jobs in the homes would be impossible.

    Cons

I'm still fairly new to the company and haven't found my place yet. It is sometimes a challenge relating to younger colleagues who assume that I don't know how to care for a client because I'm new to my position. I value their experience in the home, but I don't know that they recognize the experience I bring to my position. When I was training in the home, I would have appreciated having someone explain to me the family dynamics and expectations for care. I was given tips like Mom doesn't like the client on her tummy too long, but nothing that really gave me insight into how the family functions or how my position fits in the structure. These aren't really cons to working at PHS, just observations from my early experiences set forth for consideration by others who may be looking at a mid-career path change.

    Advice to Management

I don't have any specific advice for addressing an identified problem. I can say from experience that transparency in decision-making and effective, timely communication promote a stable work environment and foster job satisfaction in employees, especially those who work remotely and can sometimes feel cut off from the rest of the organization.

I worked at Pediatric Home Service full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Assists great families in need of nursing, definitely a feel-good job

Nice side perks for office staff (food truck day, popcorn day, etc)

    Great co-workers

    Cons

Really poor inter-department communication between management and staff with a lack of follow up

Highly reactive vs. proactive management environment

Low pay compared to the amount of stress

    Advice to Management

Improve communication processes throughout the company to be more efficient and transparent. Poor communication and lack of transparency causes unnecessary redundancies/inefficiencies, stress on families, undue stress for employees and over time it erodes company culture and staff morale. As stress and workload go up, so does the need for good communication and without it no one is truly working together. When communication is not transparent and staff is blindsided by things like staff reductions, increased workload, etc., a culture of fear is created where everyone is waiting for the other shoe to drop. It completely undermines the entire mission of the company which is to always take care of the customer. Fixing the communication issues is key to having a successful base to build off of moving forward.
