I have been working at Peel District School Board full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great kids, great benefits, and you can meet some really nice people along the way

    Cons

Though I've worked under some great principals, some principals act like dictators and bully staff, especially support staff. I've been laughed at, screamed at in front of students, parents and other staff, told I don't know how to do my job, told I can't go on breaks, etc. They favour certain staff with special treatment and make your life miserable if you're not one of the favourites.
Superintendents don't try to fix the problem with the principal unless you have at least 5-10 people who are also having the same problem. Even then, they do the bare minimum to "fix" the problem.
HR knows certain principals have a bad name and can't do anything about it.
I used to enjoy working for the PDSB and now I'm cautious and nervous going into new schools when I used to be excited and ambitious.

    Advice to Management

Please listen and respect every staff member in the board. When your staff are begging you for help because they're being emotionally and mentally bullied by the admin/principals YOU HIRED, help them! Deal with the issue. Believe the words they have to say. Try to do something about it. After all, you were the person who let this person have their power.
I've never experienced more anxiety/stress in my life than I have this year at the school I worked at... all because no one would do anything to help until it was too late.

If you know staff are constantly calling HR on admin/principals, and staff at their schools always leave or try to seek help from upper management, investigate the principals. Believe the staff and try to find the problem.
I feel powerless in the board knowing terrible people are able to keep their positions of power with no repercussions for their actions.

I have been working at Peel District School Board full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The work 'could' be interesting and fulfilling.

    Cons

Team Leads/Managers with no experience/management/people skills, lack of mentoring, training, support, internal promotion - too much bias

    Advice to Management

From a higher level take more note on what is going on in departments, when you only hear from one person it's not a 'true' portrayal.

I have been working at Peel District School Board full-time

    Pros

Set hours, good benefit and good vacations. If you get a co-teacher that value your position, your input for the program, you will have a good year.

    Cons

You are not sure whom you will be working with every year. Depending on the culture of the management, one may either feel underappreciated or appreciated.

I have been working at Peel District School Board full-time

    Pros

you sometimes feel like you are part of a community
the hours and vacation times are good, especially for people who have kids to look after
sick days per year are fair

    Cons

rules and regulations differ depending on your Principal and this is frustrating
hiring does not allow teachers to switch panels (elementary-secondary) without losing seniority
HR does not seem to get back to you in a timely manner when you have important questions
there is not enough mentoring; in fact I was left off of a list for an initial teacher orientation altogether...
there are too many classes/students given to each rotary teacher
you are not respected on the same level as a "homeroom" teacher
you can often be asked to teach by going from room to room, and not have your own room
and finally...you can only travel during high season!
