    Pros

Excellent product overall with stiff competition in this marketplace.

    Cons

Nothing good coming from purchase of brand -- lost in the coffee shuffle.

    I worked at Peet's part-time

    Pros

Ethical trade/sourcing practices, very dedicated to making sure employees are educated about coffee and tea, regular feedback and annual skills re-certification, they try to create some community between stores with annual barista competitions

    Cons

Continued to become more "corporate," feels like they're losing some authenticity trying to compete with Starbucks, very strict timecard rules, would purposely schedule shorter shifts to avoid giving longer breaks to part-time employees, not a lot of growth opportunities.

I worked at Peet's (More than a year)

    Pros

Peet's offers a great employers many opportunities to move up with the company. If you really enjoy the business side of the coffee industry, working at Peet's could prove to be a way to earn good money as a store manager or even regional manager. Peet's baristas have to know a lot about the coffee they serve and their training programs help make the employee more knowledgable on coffee and coffee products.

    Cons

It takes awhile for a retail associate to make shift lead, but it all depends on who the store manager is. Sometimes the pay raises are hard to negotiate also.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the excellent coffee platform.

    Pros

The atmosphere is very chill. The staff and management are great. The coffee is really good quality, the training is fun, easy, and very informative.

    Cons

They pay isn't that great, the benefits are alright, and (at least at my store ) scheduling around your availability doesn't always work in your favor. Also they ask you to really push items, like the coffee of the month, but there's no incentive for you only for them.

    Advice to Management

Paying your people the bare minimum and expecting to work hard for your bonus doesn't improve teams moral.

    I worked at Peet's full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Peet's has always been a very idealistic company with a great product. With the changes over the last few years (JAB buyout), the culture changed quite a bit. It became more fast-paced, and the focus shifted from fanatically quality-based to more market responsive. There are good and bad aspects to this change, and at the end of the day, it's just a different company and appeals to a different employee. The product and the culture are still very good.

    Cons

In the years after the buyout, there was a lot of transition among leadership, which is difficult, and sometimes lead to a lack of clarity. Peet's lost a lot of good people: some of this turnover was an inevitable result of change, but some could have been mitigated with better change management.

I have been working at Peet's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Low qualifications, experienced and caring coworkers, and a manager who listens. Also, due to some very generous regulars, tips can boost your hourly wage between 2 and 4 dollars weekly.

    Cons

It is very difficult to plan around this job. You get your schedule at a maximum of 2 weeks in advance, some times as little as 1. Middle management is fine, but the DM can be a bit demanding. And what always comes with customer service, the occasional unruly customer (but rarely).

    Advice to Management

To the store manager, excellent job on cooperating with your employees; but it would be much appreciate if you were just a tad bit more organized. To the DM, you worked your way from the bottom up, and I respect that. On that note, lighten up just a little bit on what you expect from individual stores. A single customer complaint is not worth completely changing store policies (not a sensitive issue).

    Pros

Lots of room to grow within the company if you work hard and put in the extra effort

    Cons

If you get placed in a poorly runned store employees and managers won't be very usefull

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing but always remember who you are scheduling for each shift.
