    I worked at Peet's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Peets is great for a job while you are in school or to supplement with another second job at night. People are usually really chill (worked at one in CA too) and you can wear what you want for the most part. Plus the coffee is great.

    Cons

Hard to move up, people can get stuck here. Tips suck compared to working at smaller mom and pop shops. You'll maybe luck out getting $2 an hour since everything is pooled. Even though Seattle has $15 minimum wage, you're really not making a livable wage at the end of the day if the tips are that bad.

I have been working at Peet's full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Family owned feel with corporate safety net.
    Quality over quantity.
Product knowledge and event participation mandatory.

    Cons

Every job will have the occasional employee disagreements and drama.

    Advice to Management

Stay neutral and calm in situations of tension. Find a answer that benefits all parties.

I have been working at Peet's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The atmosphere is very welcoming to people of all backgrounds.
Everything from gender transitions to tattoo sleeves are welcomed.
Above minimum wage pay that increases every 6 months.
Paid vacation hours, paid sick hours.
Free drinks while working with one free pastry.
Half pound of free whole bean or ground coffee a week.
Half off everything when off duty.

    Cons

This depends on the store entirely and the management. My store is fantastic from top to bottom (Torrey Highlands) which is why our employee turnover rate is low and employment is high. I've been here 2 years so far.

    Advice to Management

Peet's Corporate: allow for more in-store innovative freedom so that each location can adjust and adapt to the customer base surrounding them. This can include special deals or different music choice for younger audiences. Even an open mike night for certain locations could be helpful.

    Cons

Management is not as efficient as it should be, and the work environment can get a little stressful because of that

    Advice to Management

listen to what your employees are saying to you

I worked at Peet's (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great coffee and tea. Fun fast paced enviornment. Good benefits and flexible schedules. Good place to build friends and connections in the community.

    Cons

New corporation has lost sight of Peets original core values. They've "sold out" and become a little commercial.

    I worked at Peet's part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I worked at Peet's a couple of times in my life and each time it was the perfect job that allowed a healthy work/life balance that allowed me to pursue greater endeavors outside of the job. I also gained a TON of knowledge on coffee that I have happily carried with me for years.

    Cons

I don't know what has changed since I left but I remember if you wanted to become a lead or store manager there was a lot hoops to jump through for not that much of a raise given the amount of responsibility that is given to you. Even more so beyond that it was seemingly impossible to work your way to the corporate level.

    Advice to Management

Do your best to recognize the strengths of each employee at every level and provide more tools and roadmaps for upward movement. Also, allow tipping on credit card transactions!

    I worked at Peet's part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible schedule, free coffee, great customers and team! I'm an early bird and opening was my favorite shift. You see a lot of the regulars in the morning.

    Cons

There were so few cons! The pay was what you would expect for just a barista doing a pretty straightforward job. It really depends on your manager and I had a great manager.

    I worked at Peet's full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

All the people I worked under valued work ethic, no drama and a job well done.

    Cons

It was difficult to say no to working 24/7 when you knew you didn't want to let down your company.

    I worked at Peet's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The customers - I know it sounds cliche but Peet's isn't as well-known as other big named coffee chains which means the customers you get at Peet's are more than likely regular returning customers. This provides an authentic friendly atmosphere. It also helps with merchandising the store to cater to the interests of the community (if the community is more health-conscious, then you might not find success in trying to add on a cheese danish to their order)

    Cons

There was entirely too much push for hand-crafted beverages. We were all trained to make the best drinks to begin with which included presentation. Then it was directed that all our lattes needed art (leaf, heart, etc.) which is detrimental to throughput.

    Advice to Management

Keep up on training your baristas, passing the certification during the early stages of their employment doesn't mean they retained their skill or even improved. Just make sure the drinks are to standard throughout their employment.
