    I worked at Peet's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Peet's was a fantastic job! I had great coworkers, a manager who cared about her staff and customers, and the best customers in the world! We were truly lucky at our location. Some places have rude customers, I worked there almost a year and only had a handful. Our regulars were so nice and our store had a very small shop feel for a chain store. It was great getting to know people and getting to be part of their day. The customers started to feel like friends too.
You get great training there. They truly care about quality. They don't just push a button to make your shot, it's pulled by someone with a lot of training. Not to say that a few bad apples don't sneak their way in there every now and then. You get free coffee and a pastry every shift which is also a plus. They have a great position in the market because they offer amazing coffee and tea but they don't train their baristas to be snotty or pretentious when it comes to the product. You get a way better cup of coffee than starbucks, and you get great customer service. They also are great at promoting from within so it can also be a good career option.
The biggest plus of all, I worked there part time (21-30 hours a week I think at the time) and got medical, dental, vision and life insurance for about $70.00 a month!! A good blue cross HMO plan too, not just a high deductible kaiser plan.

    Cons

The base pay is very low but they make up for it in benefits, tips help too. The way your are timed at the espresso bar can sometimes stress out the barista. It's hard to keep up when you are training or when you have a newbie on the register sending over incorrect orders. Or when you have 3 minutes to make 4 different drinks and the customer has ordered 20 different types of milk!
Don't know if this is still the case as I haven't worked there in a while, but the manager would get a bonus if the staff turnover was low. This caused some really bad apples to be kept around, and punished a good manager for getting rid of them. I saw a great manager be sent to several different stores that were struggling. It seemed to be somewhere between a compliment and a punishment. Sometimes being good means you spend your time at the places that are struggling I guess. She spent a lot of time and energy training her staff and she was really good at her job. It seemed like she had to sacrifice her bonuses because she had her sights on the long term goals for the shop. I don't know the whole bonus structure though, so that's what it appeared to be from an outside perspective. Maybe the company rewarded her elsewhere.

    Advice to Management

Continue to keep the quality high and promoting effective managers. The time and energy spent training your staff is recognized and appreciated! Keep it up!

I have been working at Peet's full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Fun, fast paced work environment
Free drinks, coffee, decent merch discounts
    Flexible schedules
Can move up within the company if you work hard enough (sometimes)

    Cons

Hard to get your shift covered if you get sick, depends on store and staff though.
Management cuts hours regularly, short staffed.
    Lots of turn over

    Advice to Management

Compassion for your staff can go a long way, had a very caring manager that looked out for her staff. Recently got a new manager that only see's the $, does not care for her staff, half the crew has quit or is trying to leave.

    Cons

It would be nice to have a manager that was more enthusiastic about coffee and store quality, all of that falls on my stores assistant manager.
