I have been working at Peet's full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Easy job once you learn how to make drinks. Excellent working atmosphere and management. Everyone helps each other out when learning. Shifts are usually always open for whoever wants to pick up extra hours. And of course the perks of free coffee and learning about how to make quality coffee is an awesome advantage to this job.

    Cons

It's retail and customer service. There are bad days and good days and you probably won't have weekends off and so having any social life can be hard. If you're a student looking for a part time job though, this is perfect for that.

    Advice to Management

Communication could definitely be better and any sort of decision making needs to be thoroughly passed down to everyone on the team. It can be hard to accomplish just because not everyone has the same availability and so something could change and they won't find out about it until a week goes by.

I worked at Peet's full-time for less than a year

    Pros

It all starts with the quality of the product, and Peet’s coffee is great. Roasted fresh in California and sold/used within weeks. Also get to meet some great people, many of whom have been with the company for years.

    Cons

Very fast-paced environment, which is to be expected. Training is very erratic, especially for someone hiring into a management position. It seemed as if they didn’t know how to handle this situation as they usually only promote from within.

    Advice to Management

When hiring someone outside for management, don’t rush the basic training process. Especially in a food service environment, it is imperative to know the product and processses thoroughly.

I worked at Peet's full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Decent benefits, employee discounts, free coffee, nice team, mostly nice customers

    Cons

Poor management teams, high turnover rate in retail and corporate level, not enough support from corporate for retails stores, poor training & development programs, low wages, employee discount keeps getting reduced & price of goods continues to increase, favoritism among who gets promoted to management: not based on who is actually qualifies, poor work life balance-- management will overwork shift leads,

    Advice to Management

Hire a more consistent/relevant corporate leadership team: people who actually know what its like to work in the stores. Get a better training program/trainers.

I have been working at Peet's full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    Okay benefits, tips, and discounts.

    Cons

A lot of company rollbacks and cuts. An example of this is the rising prices of coffee in the past week. They also took away "raincheck" and various discounts for customers. Also, bad business decisions have led to store closures and replanning for 2018's year. A lack of communication between upper and lower management creates rifts in the way the store does business between night and day. These issues also are also just a small part of what I have seen with this company. Wages in this company are ridiculous and uncompetitive. In my store, they are trying to "restructure" the store in order to get the "right people" in them. With this idea in mind, management has created a hostile environment in which people are scared to lose their jobs while also being paid about minimum wage. On top of that, Peet's tries to say their benefits packages are great, which they are, but only if you can afford them with the little hourly wage they give you. On top of all the issues I have explained, they also have a habit of baiting people into staying by saying they will promote you in the long run. Good luck with that as they will be more than likely hire outside and say you need more "development." It's ridiculous how many people really feel that they are so close to being promoted and something comes up where they need more "development" is some made up issue about them.

    Advice to Management

Take a seat and ask yourself why the stores aren't happy anymore. If you went into a Peet's and looked at how much work you make your employees do with little pay, you might change your outlook. If you don't continue to see high turnovers. If you want to grow like Starbucks, take a seat and listen to your employees like they try to do.

I have been working at Peet's full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Benefits are okay and discounts are okay. They have rolled back on the discounts for employees and customers alike though. The flexible scheduling is okay and overall it's a okay job.

    Cons

I think what Peet's is forgetting is it's employees. My store has recently been doing everything to fire anyone who does any small thing wrong. This has created a bad environment to work in. Who wants to work somewhere where they think they'll be fired from one customer complaint, or missing 5 dollars from their tills. The discounts are being rolled back for employees and customers alike. Examples include only half a pound of free beans, 30% employee discounts, limited to 3 free drinks. They say their beans are quality. This corporate giant also actually cares about yelp reviews, like they are the most serious thing in the world. So a 5 year old can write about a bad review about you and you might be written up for it also. Peets also tries to make you stay in their company, by saying you will get a promotion and chances are you will not get it. Some people get dragged into this "promotion idea" saying they needed to be "developed" more. Transparency is clearly an issue with this company as they will find any reason to keep you where you are. Turn over at Peet's is also quite high because of all the factors I've said and most of all the pay. Why do a job with a high stress environment if you'll get paid a little over mim. wage.

    Advice to Management

It's time to change your treatment of your employees. How many times have you allowed Alfred Peet's vision be destroyed by these "budget cuts?" If you want to know why you guys can't keep a CEO or leadership team, it's because you lack transparency and support for you employees. People who are tenured in Peet's literally make less than the people who join today.

I worked at Peet's full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Customers, team members, coffee. Benefits are also amazing. They take care of their team members. Wonderful experience. Great management and so many locations, the hours are excellent too. I’ve worked there 2 times and would definitely go back again.

    Cons

I never really experienced many bad days. The customers were wonderful. The hours were early but the earlier you work the earlier your off. The shifts are a little difficult on the times.
