I have been working at Pegasystems full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I am not a technical guy, but Pega technology seems superior. This is the first high tech software company I have worked for where the customers seem really satisfied and are saving huge amounts of money through greater efficiency. That makes everyone's job easier. Pega also seems to care about it's people and tries to take good care of them.

    Cons

Very controlled at the top. Very short path to the CEO who owns the company outright, seems to work 24/7, and can be involved in the tiniest of details around a particular deal or decision. Hard to imagine that this can be scaled further as the company continues to grow.

    Advice to Management

Somehow the company needs to learn to truly empower people.

I have been working at Pegasystems full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Product is the best out there, decisioning capabilities, no-code — we have a big lead
CEO is not selling shares, not focused on individual wealth, so long-term thinking dominates the culture
New CMO seems much more in tune with branding
CFO has tremendous charisma and communication skills, really sound business experience and outside view - he has made big difference in how the business runs

    Cons

Our sales teams are pockets of good, but many stale places - we dont seem to want to turn of the old boys club over because of long standing relationships
Some of our leadership team have been at the company for so long that it is beyond time to retire or move on

    Advice to Management

Continue the recent movement to running the business using business fundamentals and not anecdotal gut feelings
Bring in better sales leaders who will drive accountability and urgency and less excuses

    Pros

    Great peers and great products.

    Cons

Work-Life balance needs attention and executive leadership is not in touch with what is actually happening at the root levels.

    Advice to Management

Spend some time with the middle management to learn what is really going on in the organization.

I worked at Pegasystems full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Bonus, salary, team mates, bene’s, flex time

    Cons

If someone doesn’t like you, they push you out no matter how good you are or how hard you work. People empowered to abuse others and force good people out. Not professional by any means. You can go from hero to zero overnight. The work is on their platform and useless outside of Pega.

    Advice to Management

People are very afraid and fear mgmt badgering and bullying.

I have been working at Pegasystems full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

This company is making money, and good products. Its almost under stated how well they are doing considering their size. The hours are reasonable (a bit on the early side but that seems to work fine in Boston) and the stress is low.

Our relatively new CFO has had an aggressive growth agenda and I think he's been doing a great job helping us focus.

    Cons

Product vision is very top down, most things come from the CEO or head of product. Both are very capable and have great instincts but I feel like this hinders true innovation to some degree and it makes it too easy to get stuck in the "pega way" of doing things.

Everything at pega is built on the Pega 7 platform, This platform tries to follow a codeless development approach using pegas custom rules engine. It could take you well over a year to fully get a grasp on how everything works and the longer you're in the platform, the further from standard software/web dev conventions you are.

Lastly, the people here are incredibly nice but this is not a "fun" job. The hours are normal and the culture is very polite and professional but this doesn't feel like a place for young people. It's very much a commuter job and there aren't many, if any, office perks or fun outlets to help you take a mental break.

Most of the engineering is done in India or Europe, this can make collaboration difficult and your days can easily start at 8am or earlier to meet with your colleagues over seas. I regularly had my first meeting at 7:30am.

    Advice to Management

Keep thinking about what outcomes we need to achieve for our customers first, then focus on pega's platform capabilities second.

Also, try to bring some fun to the office. Our European and Indian offices are loaded with cafeterias, free food, games and more. We have nothing in Cambridge.

Great culture, opportunity to impact all aspects of the business from any level

I have been working at Pegasystems full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great software produced under brilliant leadership. The culture here is unlike anywhere I have seen - where everyone is truly invested in everyone else's success. In two years, my knowledge has grown tenfold over what I had learnt in the last 15 years.

    Cons

The product is so enormous and spans numerous industries. Each with its own demands. You have to stay focused and be patient as you ramp up.

    Advice to Management

There is no magic bullet to good talent. Hands on experience and proven diagnostic skills are a must.
