    Great place to work

Nov 7, 2022 - Manager in Boston, MA

    Pros

    * Product - unmatched! * Culture - open and transparent * People are genuine and care a lot about each other and our clients

    Cons

    * We're not a "marketing machine" like some of our competitors - but I see this as a good thing since our clients shouldn't feel that they're being "marketed to". But for those who judge at a surface level, without looking at our product capabilities, they could be fooled into thinking the product of others does more than it really does

Constant Organizational Changes and Lack of Direction/Leadership

Oct 16, 2022 - Account Executive in New York, NY
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Colleagues are Great and the people in general are supportive of one another Product is still strong in the market; produces the business outcomes it's designed to do There is good work/life balance People do care about each other. If you have a family emergency, you can take time off to address, plus no one generally bothers you during the weekends.

    Cons

Major Organizational Changes every six months (If not more) Key Talent (Especially women) have exited recently Focus on Top Accounts (no Greenfield) will NOT grow the company no matter what leadership says. Departments are Silo'd and compete with each other There's a $2B Verdict against Pega around Intellectual Property Theft (Appian Lawsuit) that Senior Leadership has chosen to ignore, but at a ground level (ie sales and customer service) need to address on almost a daily basis Very few sales reps exceed their numbers.

Never so happy to be moving on

    May 24, 2022 - Anonymous Employee
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Lots of fond memories and solid people over the years. Unfortunately, many people have left in the last few years and those that remain are either either very rigid in their ways or completely incompetent and unqualified (many new hires).

    Cons

Tech is unnecessarily complex and cumbersome. The BPM tools are commoditized and the AI tools are severely limited. Clients have caught on to this and many are leaving Pega behind for more flexible solutions. Pega's "no code" paradigm is complete nonsense. All but the most simplest of tasks require dozens of mouse clicks or custom Activities. Turnover is a big problem. There was a huge turnover right before COVID in 2019, then people stayed for the most part during 2020. We've seen a huge rush for the exits in the last 18 months. Many people are fed up with the pay structure, incompetent management, and product deficiencies. Major problems with the software and codebase have existed for YEARS and are never fixed. You spend more time learning all of the landmines to avoid, rather than building constructive solutions. If you're in sales or consulting, make sure you have a solid account list before joining. Unless you have major whale accounts in any of the key verticals, you are never going to make a fraction of your quota and are wasting your life here. The recent Appian debacle is a complete embarrassment and is hypocritical on so many levels. Agree with a few other recent posts – CEO should really move on. They tried with Hayden (absolute disaster). At some point, you have to wonder when he will throw in the towel and position Pega as an acquisition target, particularly now that the stock is in the toilet.

    Just No

    Oct 28, 2022 - Anonymous Employee

    Business Outlook

    Pros

There are some truly brilliant, excellent people to work with. Some teams have excellent leaders that shield them from greater turmoil happening in the company and support their career development. Some aspects of the product portfolio are truly excellent products. There is a newer push on social impact which seems to be coming from people who genuinely care about sustainability and ethical business.

    Cons

This is the most toxic place I ever worked. The Founder/CEO micromanages many things which should be out of his scope. Some aspects of corporate strategy are chaotic and ever-changing (messaging, customer acquisition, how to leverage acquired technologies) while others are allowed to get stale. Many managers are erratic and inconsistent. Employee review periods involve an arduous peer review process that is then basically disregarded by leadership and employees don't generally get to see what's recorded on their actual review documents. Plays up its salary and benefits offerings as being strongly competitive when they are actually average to mediocre compared to the market at large (at least in the US). There are many VP-level folks who have outlived their usefulness and do little more than make grand pronouncements and bark orders at the people below. Pega pays a lot of lip service to DEI, but there is a major undercurrent of white, cishet male resentment to increased inclusion (ask about "Burning Bridges"; while there are many people who are DEI champions at Pega, the ones who aren't make it well known in anonymous forums and subtly in other ways). See: Appian lawsuit (and Pega's refusal to address it in an honest, constructive manner) for an illustration of Pega's culture from the top-down.

Good company culture, bad pay and moving to Waltham

Apr 20, 2022 - Senior Software Engineer in Cambridge, MA
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

I joined while PegaSystems was in Cambridge pre-covid. The company would do fun events, they give away box seats every once in awhile to games and concerts, and my team was amazing. The work is moving away from the Pega proprietary product and into newer technologies like React and microservices, so for growth it's good. We also updated our compensation packages this month so many people should have gotten increases, albeit still under others since the whole industry is updating compensation packages as well.

    Cons

The salary is generally below average even though they're trying to hire the best engineers. Moving to Waltham is going to make it harder to hire as well, even though the new office looks amazing. There's a huge engineering presence in India that created the base of the new product, but it wasn't well done or documented and they're realizing that now. Further, many people in India are leaving for higher salaries, so the undocumented knowledge they have is going with them. Altogether, this is leading to some shaky territory going forward.

    Pegasystems Response

Thank you for sharing your feedback and advice. I'm glad that you were able to attend the in-office engagement activities before COVID-19. A consistent employee experience, whether it is in the office or remote, is important to us, and we will continue to invest in our learning programs, compensation, and Pega technologies to ensure it. I have noted your concerns around the location of the new Waltham office, scope for better documentation, and competitiveness in the market and will share these with our leadership. Please reach out if you have any other feedback in the future. - Shaena, Vice President Global Talent Advisory
