    Pros

I have been working at Pelican Products full-time

    Pros

Was once a family business and some of that culture remains although fading fast.
    Great Brand and story.

    Cons

CEO and COO are disengaged and waiting for sale of company.
Private equity company is bleeding the company and is not investing in long-term goals or employees.

    Advice to Management

Take care of the employees who got you where you are.
Stop paying minimum wage to your factory workers
Train people and pay market level wages
Celebrate successes and stop focusing on mistakes

I worked at Pelican Products full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The hiring process was very straight forward and the people in HR were very nice. When I finally got to work, I worked with some great people that worked hard.

    Cons

Although most people worked hard, there were a few serious slackers that were allowed to be that way with supervisors. Good workers were also not rewarded as much as they should be. They need to find ways to compensate people that work harder than others.

    Advice to Management

Try to pay closer attention to the hard workers and find ways to reward them. Make them feel valued so they continue to work hard if not even harder to hopefully encourage poor workers to improve and keep up with the good ones.

I worked at Pelican Products full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great employees, good benefits , good educational reimbursement.Employees very helpful to each other. Safe environment and culture. Many long tenured employees.

    Cons

    Lack of direction
    Lack of leadership
    Questionable decision making
Top level management needs to know what is really going on in manufacturing. Many employees are afraid to speak up because of retribution.

    Advice to Management

Get back to the company of old that appreciated new ideas and employee input. The exit of many top employees has current employees wondering what's going on. Keep the best talent home.

I have been working at Pelican Products (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Excellent opportunities for middle and upper managers, newer employees are valued and they are welcomed into the cliques of upper management.

    Cons

If you are in the wrong department and have put in some time you are stuck. You'll watch new employees get accolades, bonuses, promotions. From my time it seems that if you have not advanced or been promoted at around 5-7 years you will be forgotten. That's not to say you won't be a key member of important projects

    Advice to Management

    Pay closer attention key members

I worked at Pelican Products full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great product line and concepts. Engineering was pleasant to work with - one of the only departments that I can say that about. The marketing for the product was great and evolved.

    Cons

Most upper management has been part of the start and were promoted based on seniority and not level of expertise, know how or qualifications. Very closed minded and sadly most have had no other experience besides Pelican making their limitations great. A good amount of managers do not have much of a clue-this includes Purchasing, Planning, Accounting and HR. Very scary and detrimental to the overall day to day operations.

    Advice to Management

Be open to ideas, educate management by sending them to interpersonal skills classes and other relevant seminars.
