I worked at Penn Tank Lines full-time

I have been working at Penn Tank Lines full-time for more than 9 years

      Pros

Feels like you're part of a family and part of a team that's looking at the "Big Picture". Great pay and benefits. Safe Company and lives by the "Safety First" that's printed on each trailer. Truly cares about the drivers! Equipment is maintained.

      Cons

Need some newer equipment in the mix. Dental plan is less than average. Dangerous business.....hauling fuel is not a joke and this business should have a higher pay for drivers. Unfortunately the customer base doesn't see it that way. Guess that's the same challenge each trucking company has to deal with.

      Advice to Management

Don't be afraid to ask customers to pay a fair rate for this dangerous work performed.

I worked at Penn Tank Lines full-time for more than 2 years

      Pros

Management and staff at the local level is very good and is a family atmosphere. Good dispatch team that actually cares. Equipment is well maintained. Pretty decent health insurance.

      Cons

Modified load-pay plan favors the company, not the drivers. The company demands safety while offering a pay plan that requires the driver to rush in order to make a living. You will work hours for which you will not be paid. You will work 50 to 60 hours per week. No work-life balance. The family atmosphere of the local terminal does not extend to the corporate level. It's easy to be fired for relatively minor infractions,...

      Advice to Management

You can have safety or you can force drivers to hurry and rush. You can't have both. It doesn't work that way.

I worked at Penn Tank Lines full-time for more than 4 years

          Pros

Money was ok - and Benefits was ok. Worker bees were Great!

          Cons

The owner retired and turned the company over to his son's that are not following in his footsteps. The owner knew how to treat his employees and was fully aware of who really got his company to where it was financially. The son's were hand fed and has no idea how to walk up to one of their employees, shake their hand, give them a pat on the back and Thank them for being a part of keeping their company in business.

          Advice to Management

Take the advise from previous Senior Management and hopefully the company can remain wearing the Penn Tank Lines logo.

I worked at Penn Tank Lines full-time for more than 4 years

          Pros

Great Co workers, very friendly, just show up and go to work. Your paycheck will be there waiting for you period.

          Cons

Management doesn't want equipment damaged at all. They will fire you. Other than that management is very fair with making sure you are a satisfied company worker.

          Advice to Management

          Give drivers a second chance.

I have been working at Penn Tank Lines full-time for more than 20 years

          Pros

Fair pay(for a fair days work -do your job everyday!) Good Insurance Program (Best I have had in years.) Drivers & Management know their responsibilities. Corporate folks are eager to help. Owners appreciate their employees.

          Cons

Hours are long but look this is trucking - either you can handle it or you cant! I have done this for over 40 years & not complaining. Having a few gray hairs means I have seen people come & go! If you want a 9 to 5 job, trucking is not where you need to be either as a driver or supervisor.
