    Positive Outlook

I worked at Penrose St. Francis Hospital part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Penrose-Saint Francis is a Magnet facility and offers many opportunities for RN growth in the Colorado Springs area. Management and the Education department want to support the growth of their staff within the Centura system and work with you to recognize your goals.

    Cons

The salary is lower than other cities I have worked in but is on par with the Colorado Springs area.

    Pros

Penrose Hospital employees are very caring and kind

    Cons

They need a better parking situation for patients, employees and visitors

Build a parking garage even though you are planning a new hospital, keep your employees happy NOW!

I worked at Penrose St. Francis Hospital full-time

    Pros

    Good experience with clinical staff

    Cons

Work overload was way too much and the manager didn't care if you had a life other than the one you had there

    Advice to Management

Be considerate and responsible for employees and try to be more compassionate and hands on

I worked at Penrose St. Francis Hospital full-time

    Pros

My CPE supervisor and the Spiritual Care department at this hospital were wonderful. Rock solid CPE program.
    Great interdisciplinary team integration.

    Cons

Required weekend on-call rotation was tough but comes with the territory.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Penrose St. Francis Hospital full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Beautiful view of Pikes Peak, many outdoor activities, family friendly city.

    Cons

Because this is a military town with an influx of nurses the pay is very low in respect to the cost of living. The hospital functions as a community hospital that desires to compete with the medical market of Denver, however the pay and benefits are lacking. Staffing is poor with high and dangerous patient/nurse ratios and mandatory call shifts are used as regular staffing. Quality of life is low. There is no sense of appreciation of staff. Management functions with no concept of the staff.

    Advice to Management

Take care of your nurses and employees and they will take care of the patients.

I have been working at Penrose St. Francis Hospital full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Just celebrated 10 years with Penrose St. Francis. I've been a nurse for 24 years and prior to PSF worked a average of 3 years at any given hospital and then I was just done. This place cares for their associates. Benefits are plenty and care and compassion aren't just for our patients.

    Cons

Not the highest paying player in town, but the culture makes up for the money.

    Advice to Management

Thanks for taking care of your bedside caregivers!
