A revolving door of good talent

Jul 15, 2022 - Sales and Management Trainee in Lansing, MI

    Business Outlook

    Pros

There are often promotional opportunities a few times a year, but only when someone leaves. There are countless locations in every state/part of the country if you are willing or looking to relocate. This is a good entry level company out of college to learn sales, management, customer service, & logistical skills. Area management are very kind and supportive, but aren't the people you work with regularly because they are farther up the chain.

    Cons

Most people leave within a few years to either protect their mental health or because they don't fit the specific "profile" of who management wants to promote. Management consistently drives good talent away because of micro managing, passive aggressiveness, and empty promises. Top management is extremely out of touch and always expects you make sacrifices for the company with typically no reward in return - usually a form of ultimatum. There is a double standard between "counter associates" and upper sales/management employees where you are blatantly treated differently with less respect and flexibility. Work life balance is almost non existent for employees who haven't been at the company for 10+ years, or dedicate their entire life for the job. You are expected to say "yes" to everything or you are voluntold by a manager. Because the industry and locations are predominantly men, women are often faced with multiple harassment situations from co workers and customers that make them uncomfortable. Management has a hard time hiring & retaining women leaders who are supportive and want to see other women like them move up in ranks. Unfortunately it feels like a giant puppet show and not a lot of authenticity throughout.

    Sales and Operations Management Trainee

    Pros

If you're just out of school, you'll work with a lot of people around the same age as you and that's pretty fun. Coworkers were all friendly and easy to get along with. Dependant on location though.

    Cons

There isn't a set path for career advancement which the job ad makes it seem like. You will be able to apply to internal positions as they come up, but it's all based on who decides to leave their roles.

Awesome Company, but management holds information - favoritism

Jun 24, 2022 - Anonymous Employee in Houston, TX

    Pros

Awesome ambient, and the opportunities are great as long as your willing to play their game.

    Cons

Someone who is willing to put in the work does not really get rewarded, mostly of favoritism, they will tell you is not your time yet even though you Have valuable exposure and valuable decision making under your belt and is willing to put in the work, if you want to learn good luck, they always seem like their "hiding" information, they do not want you to learn, because you will learn at a fast past and soon overpass them, they hold information on purpose to keep you from growing.

Traditional Company with awful mid-level leadership

    Jul 17, 2022 - Director, Engagement & Inclusion
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Best in industry in many categories. Growth opportunities as long as you are able to move anywhere in the country.

    Cons

The entire industry has fallen decades behind modern employers. While it is nearly impossible to get fired, it's very easy to get promoted as long as you are someone who will do as they're told and not think for yourself. Each department works in its own best interest and often against the best interest of the company. The President of the company is someone I believe in. The other people in all levels of leadership in the company are more worried about making things look like they're going smoothly, rather than actually making them do so.
