      Fantastic So Far

      Pros

Penske has been very accomodating, welcoming, and willing to assist me in everything I do within the company. My training has been excellent, and all of my fellow employees are understanding and helpful.

      Cons

The job duties are a lot to take in and adjust to at first, but the other employees understand this well.

A lot of talk not enough backing it up

      Pros

The best part of working at Penske is that they fly you to another state for training. You get a chance to spend time in Philadelphia in a hotel that is partnered with the company.

      Cons

      1. They always say they hire from within but CLEARLY they do not. They have literally that token person that they refer to but the rest....good luck advancing. 2. They say the position is to train you to become a leader but they have no clear pathway or curriculum. That being said my seniors literally said just pick up random work/projects. I am okay doing additional work but even when you do there is no incentive. No recognition, no promotion, not even a thank you. At one point covid started above 50% of staff jobs were temporarily suspended and until today I worked without a day off or complaint. You would think well was there covid pay, shorten hours, or any and the answer is no. We actually had close to a record setting year with everyone leaving California and business rushing to deliver packages because of everyone ordering online. Oh icing on the cake during the time they suspended benefits. 3. If its raining and windy outside have fun walking around the yard (absolute must every single day)trying to write down inventory while your papers get wet and pen/pad try and blow away. They have vehicles but figure its better to make you brave the elements for close to an hour.

      Training would be nice

      Pros

Stable predictable work environment. Good benefits typical of a corporate blue collar job. There are much worse places to work. Given all the cons the grass is greener over here.

      Cons

Lack of training for experienced techs. The company offers training but it is up to local management to apply that training. You have to be on the clock to participate in the training (this includes online training) which dings the local managements labor numbers. This has been this way since before the pandemic.

Flexible Hours driving what we love; Trucks

Apr 8, 2021 - Hiker in South Plainfield, NJ
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Flexible hours, cooperative and caring supervision and colleagues, chance to drive wide variety of trucks, equipment well maintained and usually cleaned for customer delivery

      Cons

Occasional miscommunication leads to wasted trips, Hiking does not seem to give you a chance for further Class A driving with Penske Logistics (another Penske Division). Penske Logistics does not have a finishing program as they want VERIFIABLE year of Class A driving. Hikers with Class A CDL do not get to pull trailers that often.

      Pros

Great way to learn new skills and develop traits to get your foot into B2B and treating it as if it was your own truck company.

      Cons

Hostile working environment. Current manager is not afraid to confront their employees. Always feeling compared. No morality, just work just to get by the day. No longer felt fun going into work without being shun upon for the small mistakes at work. Hawaii is scarce for growth for opportunities unless you are willing to relocate to a different state.
