I worked at Pentaho full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The Orlando Office was a fantastic place to work.

    Cons

I grew professionally at Pentaho. I learned some of the best lessons of my career. If there are any cons, I outgrew my position too fast. I should have been more patient and waited for advancement. I got bored and frustrated because I thought too high of my abilities. I learned humility and work at a fast paced IPO startup that looks great on my resume! Thanks Pentaho :D

I have been working at Pentaho full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits, ability to work from home when you need to, overall the smartest group of people I've ever worked with. Genuine ability to move jobs within the company.

    Cons

Not that crazy about the work itself that I'm doing, but hey, it's a job. The office is kind of packed with people since we're expanding so fast.

    Advice to Management

Focus on recruiting the best people.

I have been working at Pentaho full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

-very smart/capable team from a tech perspective, including founders / early employees that are still here after 5-10 years
-great benefits and very open to working remotely / flexible schedules
-has small-company feel but the stability of a global enterprise (independent sub of Hitachi)
-opportunity for people interested in helping scale marketing/sales/product initiatives
-have seen increased staff promotion/advancement from within over the last few years

    Cons

-sometimes there is a need to 'make your own structure' - this is sometimes a challenge but can be an opportunity for those who are ambitious and patient
-there could be more delegation by VPs/Directors of longer term major responsibilities to their staff

I have been working at Pentaho full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The people are great and it's always fun to come to work. You feel like you're going to hang out with friends and get stuff done. I look forward to going to work every day.

    Cons

Some of the people are political and there are lots of growing pains as the company is rapidly getting bigger. That is a really small fraction, though, and I think it mostly affects management. There is really no formal on board training, which makes ramping up challenging. You have be comfortable with change and moving fast to fit in.
