I worked at Penumbra full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great culture, diverse staff, well not in production, growing company, great opportunities. I did not know anyone when I joined Penumbra, met smart people here. Definitely room to grow.

    Cons

HR team is by far unprofessional, different answers amongst their own team. I got all majority answer from the orientation team; who is not ran by HR but by production. Probably why they are productive. All engineering groups work well together but not always up to try out something new for change. I often wonder how certain supervisors Internally got promoted, but then again a lot of these promotions in production and qc supervisors are usually because some one is related to certain directors or managers.

    Advice to Management

Hire supervisor and above with experience in supervising. A lot of leads and supervisors internally are immature and need more than just basic supervisors training but an actual leadership class taught by someone outside of the company

I have been working at Penumbra full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I'm not quite sure what all the talk about nepotism is about, maybe it's just in certain departments. I got my job here having no internal connections and got a promotion within 4 months. I work hard and come to work every day with a positive attitude and from what I can see and what I've experienced, that is how you move up in this company. Prove you can handle extra responsibilities and your supervisors will be happy to provide them for you. The company is growing very fast which means there are a lot of opportunities for personal growth as well.

    Cons

Location, while beautiful, is pretty far from most things. There are only two food options within walking distance.

    I worked at Penumbra full-time

    Pros

    25 cent sodas
    benefits are okay
    sometimes events

    Cons

nepotism, you see it more and more as you stay. You start to notice some people's "mess ups" being lost due to them being related to someone or being married to someone. If English as your only language, good luck going anywhere in the company. Many of the employees seem to have it in for certain people based on race or ethnicity. Some will talk about others in another language and wonder why we might not trust them.

    Advice to Management

Hire people based on skill and not just because they are friends/family of someone currently working. Also please hire more people that speak English as a first language. Have to spend 20 minutes explaining to someone who is fresh of the boarder or immigration, certain terms or words is painful.

I worked at Penumbra full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    25 cent sodas
    Some events that occur

    Cons

    Favoritism
    No english spoken here
    Micromanaging
Strict attendance policy states to clock out no earlier than 3:30 Pm even if you clock in at 6:55 Am
    Bad management especially QC
Being tardy more than twice a month results in a write up
    2 10 minute breaks
A.C in building 1351 is always out
Long lines to punch in and punch out
Counterparts dont take their job seriously
Only a couple of leads that fulfill their duty
Working OT at 5 am and if you clock in at 5:06 it is considered a tardy for helping the company out
You have to know somebody higher up in the company or be Burmese to be promoted

    Advice to Management

Find a new profession, especially QC

I have been working at Penumbra full-time

    Pros

As an engineer in the R&D group, I have had mostly positive experiences at Penumbra. The organization is growing fast, which creates many opportunities for personal career growth. People are given opportunities quickly if they demonstrate they are capable. It is a generally fun, fast-pace, and challenging place to work and management is serious about maintaining this culture.

    Cons

With all of the opportunities come some high expectations.

    Advice to Management

Continue to think differently than other similar sized organizations in the same sector.

I have been working at Penumbra full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-People here including management is incredibly friendly and supportive.
-Company perks such as medical benefits (vision, dental, medical), 401k, stocks
-Pretty laid back atmosphere, not too stressful (quality > quantity)
    -OT is plentiful
    -ESL/aerobics/yoga classes available

    Cons

-Difficult to be promoted and advance in the company without having connections. In some of the cases I noticed that people move up not because of merit and hard work, but from knowing someone higher up on the corporate ladder.
-Favoritism (Certain management members already know in advance who will apply for a certain position opening and who's a shoe-in)
-Difficult communicating with some fellow coworkers and leads since English isn't their first language.
-Hiring standards are really subpar, churn rate is noticeable.

    Advice to Management

Diversify the workplace especially in the production lines.

    Pros

i loved the hour 7-3:30, good benefits

    Cons

ITS Hard to believe in the USA we have a co. like this that only wants asian workers, Thet pay $500 to workers to bring their relatives to encourage this environment of favortism, and nepotism....if english is your only language you will be alienated. you wont belong here and you wont be made a lead or supervisor like your asian counter parts.

    Advice to Management

They know not what they do because they dont speak the language and dont know the laws of the land and are just happy to be given an opportunity of promotion, this company promotes from within so you only the most favored relative get these positions. Management has no real skills just a bunch of yes men and women
