  1. "Miss my coworkers. Downsized due to budget issues. Most people there are kind, hardworking and care."

I worked at Peoria City/County Health Department full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great coworkers and benefits package, union contract for wage increases, tuition reimbursement offered, paid holidays, no weekends, and contributing to the health and safety of the community.

    Cons

Public funding from State of Illinois is undependable to say the least. Some positions dependent on grant funding which may or may not be renewed.

    Advice to Management

New Public Health Administrator now in charge could change for better. Don't let the talents and potential of employees get overlooked.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Peoria City/County Health Department full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The employees were very warm and caring and fun to work with.

    Cons

It is difficult because of all of the funding cuts through the state of illinois. Always a concern you would be laid off.

  4. "Be cautious about working here!"

    Doesn't Recommend

    Pros

The pay is decent for a health educator, and they do offer a full benefit package, and retirement.

    Cons

The management makes working there a nightmare. They refuse to communicate with the employees, there is a constant power struggle between the union and management, there are unqualified and overpaid managers working there, and it goes on and on.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to the employees, not just the managers! Get feed back from the employees about how they feel they are treated, and how well their managers are doing their jobs, and then clean house! Get rid of the managers that aren't doing a good job according to their employees, and keep the ones that are excelling.
