I have been working at Pep Boys full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Making more money than I was at NTB, learning quite more as well. Other than this there really aren't any more "pros".

    Cons

Horribly understaffed, at my location we only have one GST and two technicians. So with that being said working 12 hours a day is a minimum. Basically your time with your family is not important.

    Advice to Management

Get some people to fill your stores. Have your sales associates trained on how to use the system, otherwise you have money walking out the door due to tickets not being written up correctly.

I worked at Pep Boys part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You get a 20% discount on parts and services it can also be applied to snacks beverages and other vehicle products. That's pretty much the only pro.

    Cons

The pay sucks you make less than 7.50 which is below minimum wage in NJ plus you get a commission I did exceptionally well compared to other employees and only wind up making a little above 9 dollars after adding in my commission. The hours are long especially on truck days and they don't offer overtime. Not a lot of structure in the store and they will say anything to keep you from quitting including promises of going full time and never getting it. I was told if I stayed I would be made full time and then was told the only way I can become full time is to work above 37 hours for 12 weeks in a row and at the 11th week I was given less hours so the change wouldn't take place. Btw I made more money from hourly than I did off commission and I was a top performer. Also no room for growth with the company.

    Advice to Management

Add more advancement opportunities and a bonus to commission or regular salary increases.

I worked at Pep Boys full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Fun coworkers, steady work, good dental/vision benefits

    Cons

Management, bad pay, cryptic training programs made it harder to find and to attend them, always scheduled random hours/days of the week

    Advice to Management

Stop paying people minimum wage with empty promises on changing that and you just might keep employee retention rates satisfactory.

I worked at Pep Boys full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good pay and good benifits while working along side of some very highly skilled co workers in the industry. I've worked for several Corp in the industry and never have I experienced an environment quite like this.

    Cons

At this company a employee must give 110% of your effort if you don't the reward will be less than acceptable. The more productive you are the better the reward and satisfaction for you and your colleges.

    Advice to Management

Management was top notch from my experience, as long as the economy is strong i dont see why sales could be any less than acceptable.

I have been working at Pep Boys full-time

    Pros

The pay scale is good if you are motivated and skilled. The vacation time is OK

    Cons

Equipment does not get fixed in a timely fashion. High retail turnover makes for challenges with training, staffing, etc.

    Advice to Management

Give the employees in the stores more potential for bonuses to supplement their low pay. Budget shop supply fees for actually fixing equipment so it does not affect the manager's P and L. This causes things to go bad.

I worked at Pep Boys full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I started as a tire and oil tech. Through watching and working with the other mechanics, I became a service writer, and then a mechanic. I learned a great deal about auto mechanics while there, but I wouldnt want to make a career of it. However, when mistakes were made the shop always had your back.

    Cons

Upper level management cares little for the everyday workers. Pay was not the greatest. Management turned a blind eye to shady mechanic work

    Advice to Management

Try to understand what your mechanics are going through and dont assume that they can pull off an automotive miracle every time you need something done "right away".
