I worked at Pep Boys full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Money to pay your bills.

    Cons

Poor management that instead of trying to help employees improve simply vaguely threatens to fire "underperforming employees" at every pre-shift meeting. Also, the time you get off varies so it's difficult to have a social life.

    Advice to Management

Threatening employees does not motivate them, it creates a toxic work environment.

    Pros

Solid Company, been in business a long time

    Cons

Low pay after you figure how many hours "salary" is calculated. Work their full time people (Store Managers & Assistant Mgrs.) to death. Salary based on mandatory min 10hr days with no overtime pay. Salary Managers have to clock in and out daily. Never two days off in a row....and Mandatory work every SAT-even if you are the store manager and you have your store running perfectly.

    Advice to Management

Give two days off IN A ROW. Breaking up two days off, is like not having any days off. Professional salaries are based on 8 hr days not mandatory 10. Have your professional full time staff only work one Sat every month.

I worked at Pep Boys full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

If you love cars, this is a great first retail job. It allows you to learn more about something that interested you.

    Cons

Most times upper managment force you to make x amount of sales to "meet numbers". However with their high labor and part prices customers often decline and you're blamed. You can work harder than your managers and not get rewarded with raises or promotion.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your workers and do not hire people
with no car experience or knowledge. It decreases your sales and makes knowledgable employees' work more.

    Pros

Fun environmental easy hrs great manager

    Cons

    Not enough money bad shifts

    Advice to Management

Unfair treatment, rebut mechanics dont get descent tickets to earn a descent paycheck. These mechanis have bills and family's to support and these tiny checks they earn barely cover has money and lunch just to get there and work not to mention buy expensive tools from took trucks.

    Pros

You get to meet new people daily and when the repair is done right you are a hero to them.

    Cons

Under staffed and 12-13 hr days with an occasional lunch break if your lucky and you are constantly drilled about up selling services which upsets them more since they are already facing an expense they were not ready for.

    Advice to Management

Staff stores and STC's so the customer's can be taken care off properly and employees can be more productive.

I have been working at Pep Boys full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Making more money than I was at NTB, learning quite more as well. Other than this there really aren't any more "pros".

    Cons

Horribly understaffed, at my location we only have one GST and two technicians. So with that being said working 12 hours a day is a minimum. Basically your time with your family is not important.

    Advice to Management

Get some people to fill your stores. Have your sales associates trained on how to use the system, otherwise you have money walking out the door due to tickets not being written up correctly.
