    Pros

Good Pay, Good Overtime, Good Benefits.

    Cons

Management is terrible! A lot of favoritism! Training a joke! No certifications! The unions a joke! No protection! Only have 401K retirement! I work here for ten years. Would not recommend!

    Advice to Management

Management is the problem! The buddy-buddy system is terrible at PEPCO. It all starts with at the top of both you Underground and Over Head departments. You have management that are fishing buddies with bargaining units. And the take care of their buddies and mistreat the rest of the employees that are fishing buddies. Makes for Terrible and hostile work environment!

    Pros

The other departments at Pepco are not bad.

    Cons

If you want to work with people that want nothing better then the 7th floor at Pepco DC is right for you. You will never move up if you get grouped into the normal day to day. The rest of Pepco is very nice. They look at you funny when you get off on the 7th floor. Its embarrassing.

    Advice to Management

Fix the 7th floor (billing). You have some great people there.

    Pros

Utilities are generally stable companies with great benefits & pensions

    Cons

Exelon just acquired Pepco Holdings. There is a fair amount of reorganization going on. Lots of chaos. This will pass but it remains to be seen how Exelon will be as an employer- They will be laying some people off short term.

    Advice to Management

    Mercy, People are NOT interchangeable.

    Pros

    Good pay for an intern.

    Cons

Extremely boring. You won't actually do electrical engineering tasks. You basically learn what it is like to work in the power industry.

    Pros

Alright pay, paid "hourly" for extra hours worked.

    Cons

No "snow" days, no flex schedule, Management screws over top employees. Over worked.

    Pros

Strong bond with employees at mid-level employment.

    Cons

If you don't want to be an order-taker and instead, consider yourself a team leader who believes in growth, ideas, supporting your team members and true collaboration, PHI is not for you.

    Advice to Management

No formal training and true leadership skills. There is a difference between a boss trying to move up the chain and an influential leader. They will throw you under the bus at whatever it takes to be recognized and enhance their personal development.

I worked at Pepco Holdings full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Not a damn thing.

    Cons

The worst! Systems are old and antiquated. No one knows how they work. And the customers...the customers are horrible! But it's really Pepco's fault. They've allowed them to say and do what they want for ever and the word has gotten out. Pepco is so scared of the Public Service Commission that they have allows the customers to run the company. Stay away from Pepco! You'll leave with your tongue bleeding everyday from biting it so hard!

    Advice to Management

Run your business for crying out loud. Get a backbone and stop letting the customer and PSC run the show.

  10. "Hello? Is this on? Hello? Hello?"

    Star Star Star Star Star

    Former Contractor - Anonymous Contractor

I worked at Pepco Holdings as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

The few people with whom I interacted were very pleasant.

    Cons

The few people with whom I interacted were very pleasant...when they were interacting. The organization seems to lack exactly that: organization. Because of this, communication on projects ranges from sporadic to non-existent - with no feedback, etc., there is no way to gauge if you are satisfying the manager's/company's needs on a project or projects. It seems that there is always one "fire" after another that is in need of extinguishing by management, leading to multiple "I'll get back to you" e-mails that are never followed up on - or, as in my case, ultimately no communication at all. It's very strange to be invited on board and then left sitting on deck by yourself wondering where everyone went.

    Advice to Management

Organize, organize, organize...communicate, communicate, communicate. It is as simple as that. When you accomplish those two goals, your employees are in a better position to accomplish theirs - and to help make your company successful.

I worked at Pepco Holdings full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good benefits (likely due to unions within the company). Free parking in the Wilmington location.

    Cons

Director and managers were more interested in the personal lives of their employees than the actual work being performed which ultimately lead to the dismantling of the group.

    Advice to Management

They should have to pay me for my advice!
