I have been working at Pepperdine University full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great community. Coworkers will feel like a family. There are lots of opportunities to engage with coworkers, students, administrators, etc. Great networking opportunities. Dynamic work environment. No two days are ever the same if you work with students!

    Cons

The process for onboarding can be a bit chaotic in certain departments. For instance, I never received formal training on FERPA.

I have been working at Pepperdine University full-time

    Pros

Everyone here is amazingly nice. The campus is gorgeous. Parking is free, unlike other colleges.

    Cons

Budgets are tight. Don't expect an ocean view from your cubicle.

I have been working at Pepperdine University full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

It's great to work with students in an environment that is so focused on community.
Great work/life balance, with a focus on the importance of family life and opportunities to use the workout facilities.

    Cons

Depending on the management in your specific office, your department could be really poorly run.
Generally, they don't pay that well and there is not a lot of room for advancement.

    Advice to Management

Provide resources to the management in your office. And not just elective ones, there should be some mandatory training to ensure quality hiring, training, and leadership abilities.

I worked at Pepperdine University full-time

    Pros

Beautiful location, middle-level and low-level people are nice for the most part.

    Cons

Pepperdine keeps a veneer of perfection. People are generally nice, but they won't hesitate to cut jobs at a drop of a hat. Also, my experience is that people don't own up to mistakes they make on the job. Across all levels, they deny, deny, deny.

    Advice to Management

You have people in senior levels who have very poor administration skills and can not manage projects nor staff under them. If you have a senior administrator who has hired staff and then let them go, or promoted staff only to fire them in a few months, let that be your clue that there is something amiss with this particular administrator. Don't be blind.

    Pros

They hire the most amazing people who care about the well being of their students and coworkers. It feels like a family.

    Cons

The pay isn't great, but the benefits help make up for some of the lack.

I worked at Pepperdine University full-time

    Pros

Although employees do not have to be of any particular religious denominations, all employees must support the University's mission that is rooted in Christianity. I found this to be positive, but others might not feel comfortable working in an overtly religious environment.

    Cons

Although Malibu and the campus are both beautiful, it's very expensive. Some faculty and staff live in subsidized campus housing. Many commute from Los Angeles or the San Fernando Valley; the long commute can be costly and demoralizing.
