I have been working at Pepperdine University full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The environment is friendly and provides a good platform for learning. Most if not all supervisors want you to succeed. It is a beautiful campus to work at.

    Cons

The way they do business does not always align with corporate America. The pay is not equal to cost of living, but they say the amount they pay in benefits offsets it. It is obvious that there is nepotism. There is no direct horizontal ladder to climb in the company, lateral movements are where growth is found.

    Advice to Management

The non-competitive wages makes it hard to stay at the company because of the rise in the cost of living in commutable areas, the budget should be restructured to address this issue.

    Pros

Probably the best ocean view in the country; wonderful students; faculty very interested in success of students

    Cons

University sends mixed messages about its mission and purpose as if it is not quite sure about it.

    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at Pepperdine University full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Family friendly environment, positive work environment much of the time

    Cons

Disparate salary to any comparable job in the private sector. Great performance is met with 2% salary bumps, never a bonus, and usually a raise has more work responsibility added to it, regardless of if you were already overburdened to begin with. No real opportunities for promotion.

    Advice to Management

Reward excellent employees with fair compensation.

    Pros

Pepperdine is a generally wonderful place. The people are nice, the faculty are brilliant, coworkers are kind and supportive to each other, and the benefits are good. I feel truly lucky to be able to work here!

    Cons

The staff and students tend to rely on the beauty of our location. Who cares if you don't make what you deserve when you work AT THE BEACH? I have heard so many people say, "It sucks, but I mean look at this view!" I've even had friends and family tell me that whenever I've expressed discontent. Yes, the campus is beautiful, but that shouldn't mean that fair employee compensation is overlooked. I'm pretty sure most people who are not in high senior positions don't make even close to a living wage...I certainly don't!

    Advice to Management

Reallocate some funds to pay your employees better. Instead of spending $150 on catered lunches every single day, invest in your team members!!!

    Pros

Everyone here is amazingly nice. The campus is gorgeous. Parking is free, unlike other colleges.

    Cons

Budgets are tight. Don't expect an ocean view from your cubicle.

    Pros

Great community. Coworkers will feel like a family. There are lots of opportunities to engage with coworkers, students, administrators, etc. Great networking opportunities. Dynamic work environment. No two days are ever the same if you work with students!

    Cons

The process for onboarding can be a bit chaotic in certain departments. For instance, I never received formal training on FERPA.
