I have been working at Per Mar Security Services part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Doing special events for the company can be a lot of fun. It's something different all the time. You can come into this company with no experience and leave a totally different person.

    Cons

It's extremely cliquey working events. The coordinator for events has his girlfriend as his assistant. You don't get promoted on merit, it's on who you know and how close you are to the inner circle. Complaining about supervisors can (and has) consequently led to your hours being messed with. It frequently feels as though you are back in high school. If you're looking for any sort of stability you're better off going through the licensing process and working at sites versus events. There's too many empty promises in events and the senior management pays little to no attention.

    Advice to Management

Pay more attention to the events side of the company, not just the sites. A lot of good employees are lost by the management of the events.

    Pros

    Gain experience and licensing.

    Cons

Small privately owned company. Resting on past successes in Iowa. Nepotism rules the day. Lack of understanding and/or willingness to accept market conditions and adapt to or change to allow locations to be successful. Corporate support tells a great story, delivers very little to locations more than 50 miles from the home office "Per Mar Plaza". No real potential to advance. Compensation is below most market rates and is based on Corporate local demographics. Quad Cities vs. Major Metro Markets.

    Advice to Management

    Hire outside executive leadership.

    Advice to Management

get out of 1950s. if you took care of your work force that they would take care of your business.

    Pros

The company has a great management team. I had a health issue come up and was out of work for almost six months but still had a job to come back to even though I ran out of FMLA.

    Cons

There are some late nights but the company makes up for it.

    Pros

If you are a breathing human being and are capable of wearing a uniform, they will hire you on the spot.

    Cons

Bids dirt cheap to win contracts, then pays lowest possible wages which attracts only the lowest caliber of employees. Unprofessional, unethical, disorganized in every regard. Terrible wages, benefits and management structure.

    Advice to Management

A complete overhaul of your Security Officer division is necessary. Create a quality environment of trained professionals, starting with management. Go after accounts that care about high quality people, not the lowest price. Then hire those people and pay them fairly.

    Pros

Friendly field supervisors, they work hard for their employees

    Cons

Middle management General Manager on down has no work ethic and doesn't care about their employees. They also do not understand a sliding pay scale does not work.

    Advice to Management

Does not pay for vehicle use while on the job does not pay for fuel use of vehicle or even leasing the vehicle while working. It's all money out of my pocket. I do not think owners no what management does to their employees. Middle management has no work ethic towards their employees.

    Pros

Good pay, helped to pay mortgage and car payments.

    Cons

Railroaded for following training (told to leave gate open in order to not burn out motor). Lack of communication. NO warnings about what to do or not to do. Complaints about odor when I worked a 2nd job, and came directly afterward. Management could contact me, but didn't, they had my information. NO notification of whether use of company computer was allowed (my laptop died and needed repair).

    Advice to Management

Contact employees about complaints and give them opportunities to fix problems.
