I have been working at Peregrine Pharmaceuticals full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The company is focused on providing innovative approaches to cancer treatment. Lots of opportunity and professional growth potential. Team approach that works well with a dedicated group of employees. CEO and executive leadership focused on building and sharing their vision for positively impacting the lives of cancer patients and their families.

    Cons

There is still a need for some development of process efficiencies; however, this is normal for any company in a rapid stage of growth.

    Advice to Management

Continue to focus on the patient, hiring the right talent, and supporting new hires with necessary resources to prepare for the future.

I worked at Peregrine Pharmaceuticals full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very elegant conference room with glass blocks and hardwood walls. Beautiful conference table. The CEO rarely leaves his office do you don't need to worry about him popping in in you.

    Cons

CEO and CEO only have industry experience from this company, so they remain tragically and sometimes embarrassingly inexperienced.

CFO is essentially an accountant with an inexplicably large staff. He often creates knee-jerk rules, many of which are laughably naïve.

CEO is too intimidated by his senior staff to make independent decisions. For a company that is over 30 years old very few senior management have pharmaceutical industry experience. The company has never produced a profit. Ever. Think about it.

None of their clinical stage drugs have any chance whatsoever of becoming approved products. That was shown recently when when bavituximab recently (and mercifully) failed a pivotal trial.

    Advice to Management

You do not have the leadership capabilities to develop a drug even if it did work. Give up on drug development and focus on growing the manufacturing subsidiary. You should not be in the therapeutic business.

I have been working at Peregrine Pharmaceuticals full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Small company with opportunity for advancement if you are willing to be a team player, take initiative, and deliver ‘on-time’. Employee’s efforts are very visible to and acknowledged by executive management. The working environment is casual but efficient. Technical leadership is very strong. Most important: leadership believes in and has passion for the product they are developing and this core value is shared with everyone. Compensation package is in line with small biotech.

    Cons

Small company with expectation to wear multiple hats - challenging but provides opportunity to develop more marketable skills (so really not a negative).

    Advice to Management

Continue to identify and hire experienced senior management to guide and mentor as company grows.

    Pros

Local, intimate setting with some talented people.

    Cons

The stress of the employees there due to lack of processes or standard was obvious. These were hard working people operating in an environment without structure or efficiencies.

    Advice to Management

Dedicate time to setting up structure, SOPs and standards so that you can operate lean and not stress people out.

I worked at Peregrine Pharmaceuticals full-time

    Pros

Very knowledgable upper management with extensive experience from other big- and medium- pharma companies (very inspiring and motivational for the future potential). Relaxed office atmosphere. Things can get done quickly if people put their minds to it! Employee benefits ok.

    Cons

One person fills many gaps, so sometimes more direction and leadership (including structure) is needed. No tuition reimbursement program. Salaries on the lower end of industry.

    Advice to Management

Focus on transparency of goals/objectives and developing processes. Invest more in lower level employees in order to create a better middle-management.

    Pros

Easy going culture where the focus on on the patient. Professional but not stuffy. Opportunities to network across the company at breakfasts and friday afternoon socials. Benefits and pay are at or above the industry standard.

    Cons

Currently working toward a commerical product but nearing the end of Phase II trials.

    Advice to Management

Continue to upgrade employee programs especially training and development.

    Pros

Novel product that will hopefully help Cancer patients.

    Cons

Inexperienced management with only small company clinical research experience, not willing to improve and learn best ways to conduct clinical trials according to GCP.

    Advice to Management

Don't always do what was done in the past especially if it was done the wrong way in the first place.
