Supportive, growing company with passionate teams.

    Pros

Good training. Supportive management and home office. Staff are passionate about animal nutrition and that always comes first.

    Cons

Growing pains with a growing company, but that's normal! Home office is open to new ideas and suggestions as they wade into bigger waters than they're used to.

Not what it used to be

    Pros

    Fantastic nutrition knowledge. Cute dogs.

    Cons

Pay is unfortunate. Upper management is unfortunate. Fake standards. Upper management acts like they are so much better and they come from DSW, Target, etc. Someone needs to tell them to get off their high horses. It’s really sad actually and uninspiring considering how the company used to be.

    Pros

The products carried are truly good for animals.

    Cons

The company is no longer family owned and only cares about your average dollar per sale. It's all about the money and more, they may carry good products but they don't care about you as an employee/person at all.

    Don't waste your time

    Pros

Discount is 25%; learned lots about pet nutrition.

    Cons

Work/life balance with such a small staff (7 people). If someone calls off, the store manager (me) must come in. During the pandemic we were considered an essential business. Our hourly team (sales associates and managers) got a $1 raise during the pandemic for hazard pay. Store managers got a $200 bonus, which resulted to be $132 after taxes. Meaning my hourly staff got more than I did, by the end of this long 3-month stay at home order. This really goes to show how they take care of their Store Managers...who put in all of the hours, blood, sweat and tears. Little to no appreciation for what we do, working on the frontlines. I'm very disappointed in the way they handled things.

    Pros

Family owned, and the company truly cares about animals. Lots of great opportunities to travel if you want to help set up stores or train. Lots of great community events you get to go to.

    Cons

Company is growing quickly and has some growing pains in the communication department. The company also has new corporate leadership, and while smart and nice, they are starting to crack the whip a bit more on the sales side of things.

    Worst job ever

    Pros

Helping people better their pets lives

    Cons

Under paid. Over worked. Not valued. Pressure sales. Unrealistic goals and expectations. As a manager, you are set up to fail. Upper management (Regional Manager, Director of Store Operations, etc) are NOT supportive and honestly pretty clueless on how to run a store.

Store Manager- Honest and Fair Review

    May 7, 2019 - Store Manager

    Pros

Positive work environment all from upper management to store level. You get to pet dogs all day and regular customers are like family and new customers appreciative of our help. Growth opportunities for those who work hard and display the core values. Owners and DMs are supportive, the company is growing big but still maintain small company feel. Contests and incentives for employees that are really fun and rewarding. Lots of tools are given to employees to create success and knowledge! Every new tool brought in is to help us grow and be efficient and services customers better. The management team creates the environment- when we are positive then each day feels positive! Which is easy to do when you truly are making such a great impact on pets lives. I have always felt my voice was heard when it came down to really important things. Everyone in Petpeople cares for one another and will help each other out! Understanding and flexible with employees

    Cons

Communication with home office can sometimes be difficult due to fast growth. New CEO is helping home office and stores catch up with how to improve in this area though! Growing pains are to be expected with the growth that’s accruing. Work load can be a lot and if not delegated and prioritized right can cause stress. Some systems in operations are time consuming and need changed so it isn’t so stressful in store level. Retail hours at any establishment can be tiring- store managers require to work 42.5 hours (hopefully one day they’ll make it 40) I know 2.5 hours seems silly but it makes a difference.
