      Pros

Retail without the typical retail hours Company truly believes in products/brands they carry Company is constantly providing enrichment and training for their employees As an employee you feel valued, and are recognized for excellence

      Cons

Just typical growing pains for a small business. Though the Home Office is quick to address issues that arise.

      Pros

The pets! Regular customers are pretty good too.

      Cons

Little to know inside promoting. Almost every position is hired out rather promoting from within. Lack of communication from home office can be frustrating at a store level. The sudden shift of “be pushy like a car salesman” vs “be genuine and only recommend a good product for your customer” is disheartening. CEO has had some scandal regarding the Black Lives Matter movement, and she just beat around the bush to acknowledge it. Way too many people in the company know each other from previous jobs, so there’s clear favoritism going on. Company needs to go back to their original values! Compensation is nowhere near what it should be for the amount of work and knowledge that is expected from employees.

Store Manager- Honest and Fair Review

      Pros

Positive work environment all from upper management to store level. You get to pet dogs all day and regular customers are like family and new customers appreciative of our help. Growth opportunities for those who work hard and display the core values. Owners and DMs are supportive, the company is growing big but still maintain small company feel. Contests and incentives for employees that are really fun and rewarding. Lots of tools are given to employees to create success and knowledge! Every new tool brought in is to help us grow and be efficient and services customers better. The management team creates the environment- when we are positive then each day feels positive! Which is easy to do when you truly are making such a great impact on pets lives. I have always felt my voice was heard when it came down to really important things. Everyone in Petpeople cares for one another and will help each other out! Understanding and flexible with employees

      Cons

Communication with home office can sometimes be difficult due to fast growth. New CEO is helping home office and stores catch up with how to improve in this area though! Growing pains are to be expected with the growth that’s accruing. Work load can be a lot and if not delegated and prioritized right can cause stress. Some systems in operations are time consuming and need changed so it isn’t so stressful in store level. Retail hours at any establishment can be tiring- store managers require to work 42.5 hours (hopefully one day they’ll make it 40) I know 2.5 hours seems silly but it makes a difference.

      Pros

Growing company, so easy to move up in the company. Upper management easy to work with. Get to pet dogs all day. Regular customers become like family/friends. Very relaxed environment, even though it’s hard work.

      Cons

Communication from Home Office is suffering due to rapid growth, although the new CEO is trying really hard to improve. Overall technology in the stores are a bit outdated. Sometimes it feels like home office doesn’t listen to the wants/needs of stores.

      Great retail Job with pets

      Pros

They are family owned, get to see the owners frequently. Never working late or too early. Pay is ok. You get raises the longer you are there. The knowledge we learn is very helpful. We get to meet all different pets all the time. Their dress code is awesome, they let you be yourself (facial jewelry, colored hair, painted nails ect). You start collecting pto time the day you start, awesome benefits.

      Cons

Being sick is unacceptable... If you have small kids not a good place to work for you. If you need to call off there is no one to cover shifts so the manager is left working a 13 hour day. Home office and other stores aren't very good at helping out in that area. Some stores always Seem short staffed then employees are moved to other stores while they are short staffed and there is no one recruiting. The manager is left to find someone for the job even if there isn't a job listed online.

      Very Enjoyable Retail Job

      May 24, 2017 - Key Holder

      Pros

If you love pets, you will be surrounded by like-minded co-workers and customers. You will acquire an abundance of knowledge about dog and cat care and nutrition; sharing this knowledge with customers, in my opinion, makes the job extremely enjoyable, and it will also help you personally in the care of your own pets. Decent opportunity for advancement - they love hiring from within and they're always opening new stores. Pay is good and they give out a reasonable number of raises as long as you work hard and show a level of commitment to customer interaction and satisfaction.

      Cons

Needs more involvement by the home office at the store level - but this has gotten better over the last few months. Extremely high expectations in terms of involvement and relationship-building with customers that seems to be unreasonable to an extent for a non-commissioned retail job - not all customers want to be followed around the store by an employee.

Tries 'Hard' but Misses the Mark

      Jun 2, 2017 - Anonymous Employee

      Pros

Great co-workers, get to learn a lot about pet nutrition, open minded company, great owners

      Cons

Growing too fast becoming very impersonal and corporate, way too low pay for what they ask of their employees, puts too much on their managers, very minimal perks for employees like a much smaller discount than other pet food stores, there's great perks for customers but employees do not get to participate in them, home office sometimes sends out stuff for employees that's so minimal it's almost insulting.
