I worked at PetSmart full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

great way to start your career as a groomer. you start as a bather, then they send you off to an academy (another petsmart location) where they train you the basics of grooming. they have a payment program for your own tools. after you return you must complete 100 grooms before you start receiving commission of 50% of groom price. you get to work with (not always) amazing pets, and develop love and relationships with both the pet and pet parent.

    Cons

2 year contract in order to go to academy. advancement is on who you know basis, and not on your work ethic. so much so, you can tell the higher ups that your manager takes coke, but yet fire your friend for a false claim without a drug test. they will promote individuals who are sexist, and cruel to animals. They keep managers that steal commission from their groomers.

    Advice to Management

listen to ALL your employees and not just management. get to know your employees and acknowledge their hard work. do not promote - kissers who ride off the success of others. hard workers do not have time to brown nose, because they are too busy being the forefront of your entire business.

I worked at PetSmart full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Working with dogs was the only thing I enjoyed about this job.

    Cons

There is a high turn-over rate here. They hire too many young immature kids who have no work ethic. It is no fun working after someone who slacks off and you have to finish what they did not do.

    Advice to Management

Pay more to attract a more mature employee. You will benefit from them being reliable and usually having a strong work ethic.

I have been working at PetSmart (More than a year)

    Pros

Working at PetSmart, you get to come into contact with lots of animals. As a bather, you can have relations with dogs that may even be more intimate than Pet Parents do. The animals are the key highlight of working at PetSmart for me.

    Cons

People can sometimes bring the wrong mood to PetSmart.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees fairly, and they will stay with you. Treat us different and we will notice. Turnover rates can be an indicator of unfair treatment.
