I worked at PetSmart full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You can bring your dog to work.

    Free snacks

    Dog park on site.

    Cons

More than Management is under qualified.

The Main Manager walks around and stares at you when you address him it feels like he doesn't want to talk to you.

They use to care aboit employee morale but no longer do.

Gym and vending machines are way overpriced for an employee benefit.

Only open to suggestions if it greatly benefits their pockets.

Highly understaffed almost all the time during busy season.

    Unrealistic sales incentive goals.

    Advice to Management

Care about your employees more like you did at the begginning of my employment.

Hire actually qualified managment that does their jobs. Except Parnell Parnell was cool and knee his stuff.

    Pros

Fun environment with pets and owners, you build a relationship with repeat customers and their pets. Some managers are good

    Cons

Too corporate, they don't care about their employees. They only care about the dollar signs. You can't run all locations the exact same way

I have been working at PetSmart part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Overnight shifts get about $100 a night, management cared about the staff, good communication, some time with the boarded pets

    Cons

No room for advancement, long shifts, mostly cleaning kennels and laundry so it gets very repetitive. It's a good start for kennel techs, hard to have another job with, especially a day job (I'm worn out from doing that), so it does limit your salary.

I have been working at PetSmart part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

It's fun, different. Great way to get comfortable with animals of you decide to continue working with animals in the future.

    Cons

Pay is too low. after getting more than 50 luckies in a shift during the holidays, more than 100 food donations in a shift, email captures. Most puppy guides. I came in whenever called, never called off. I only got a 10 cent raise.

I worked at PetSmart full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You get to work with dogs and the tips can be really good. You can get a lot of hours as well.

    Cons

They aren't that interested in teaching the bathers and if you don't get a long with your manager good luck on getting promoted. They will also keep you as a bather if you are too good because they don't want to lose you to grooming because then they have to pay you more. If you get hurt they aren't very considerate and they don't give any positive feedback only negative.

    Advice to Management

    Value your employees more

    Pros

-Fun to be around the animals
-Company really does care about animals
    -Job was easy and fun

    Cons

-Your experience here will be completely dependent upon your store manager and ops manager, mine were at odds with each other
-Petty work environment led to some people getting only 3 hr shifts, 5 times a week, ect.

    Advice to Management

Take a look at who's running your individual stores and the culture they're creating.

    Pros

Great team environment, okay training, working with animals.

    Cons

Discount is barely anything, upper management gossip, lots of untrained solo shifts.

    Advice to Management

Train your new employees better, and update your employee handbook.

    Pros

1 or 2 of the Managers are great, Assistant Manager is one of them.

    Cons

The store manager is incompetent and I'm pretty sure the only reason he's still in his position because he hires great Assistant Managers. I'm not told about the majority of what I need to know, as far as what comes from corporate and new training I need to do.

    Advice to Management

Learn to communicate with each other more effectively and with the staff as well.
