I worked at Petco full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Loved working with the animals, the staff, and customers. The hours werent too bad.

    Cons

Animals living conditions not that great. Upper management is not supportive. They boast hiring from within but keep hiring from outside. The pay is horrible. They give very little payroll hours but then take your bonus grom you if you dont have enough staff on the floor to greet and assist customers.

    Advice to Management

    I dont have any advice.

    Pros

    Work involves Being around Animals
    Good employee discounts available
    Most customers are friendly
Decent amount of hours available to work

    Cons

    Horrible upper management
Lots of work for minimal pay
    Old equipment
Lots of stores are without store leaders
Stores still use a lot of paper (not eco friendly)

    Advice to Management

Treat the employees better and recognize them for the good things instead of focusing on the negatives.

I have been working at Petco full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I want to thank every who helped me both before, during and after my attendance of a week long stay at the Petco Mentor University and Academy in Texas. I have been a Dog Trainer for Petco going on thirteen years and I was a firm believer in Petco Vision of 2020 before, but now I have a greater understanding of why the Mentor/ Dog Trainer role is so important and how I, as a Mentor/Dog Trainer, can fulfill my role and help Petco reach its goals. I now have a stronger commitment and desire to help our partners and or Guest/ Dog Parents understand that through education and love, we are changing pet's lives. The training has helped me understand how Petco can become a leader in the pet industry. As we emphasize our values and beliefs we can raise the bar in our pet education and grooming areas to the next level.

    Cons

I wish more pet owners could see how Petco Vision will and is making a difference.

    Advice to Management

Keep supporting the Dog Training Program by believing in your team because it takes all of you to make it work. You are saving lives in many ways both pets and people.

I worked at Petco part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Plenty of opportunity to advance. Average wages for what you're doing.

    Cons

Often feel like you are the only employee in the store covering a wide range of tasks that are not designed to be done alone.

I worked at Petco part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great coworkers, got to pet lots of dogs

    Cons

corporate doesn't care about workers, only pays lip service to caring about the animals. Started drastically cutting back on hours for all the stores in the district after my first year there.

    Advice to Management

Give stores more hours, hire more employees for better coverage, use more than a skeleton crew for shifts.

I have been working at Petco full-time

    Pros

I always had a passion for animals and I feel as this job will be a perfect opportunity for me plus who wouldn't want to do something that they wood love

    Cons

Only downside I see working at Petco is someone bring you in their pet to be groomed and you may be able to tell that this pet is being mistreated that's the only downside I could only see and getting fleas

    I worked at Petco part-time

    Pros

    Working with animals.
Some coworkers were amazing (Still friends, years later)
    Pretty simple and straight-forward duties.
    Seeing regulars

    Cons

    Employee Drama.
    Not recognizing hard working workers.
Lazy employees were not disciplined. (Most of them were shift leader/Managers)

    Advice to Management

Hire managers that actually work. Nothing worse than managers who sit back and delegate. Despite that I made some amazing life long friends and I think Petco is a great company.

I have been working at Petco full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

All pet stylists are full time. The salon provides training to be a stylist and is high volume during summer months, giving you a good paycheck and many dogs to gain experience. They pay for you to be trained as a stylist by a mentor located in a nearby salon and pay mileage for driving there. They do care about animals here and it's obvious. I usually enjoy my time working here

    Cons

You have to work between 38-40 hours. If you work 37.99 hours or less you give up all commission you've earned that week. If you work over 40 hours you get chastised. Petco takes well over half of everything you earn and does not allow a small sign letting customers know we accept tips.
The commission goes as follows: you always get hourly no matter what starting at $10/hour. The first $880/week you earn you get none of. You get 50% commission per dog up until $1,240/week then 55% after that. The quota resets every Saturday night. This leaves you with one, maybe two days where you can actually earn commission. Most paychecks below $1.000

    Advice to Management

Stop raising the commission tiers. Start doing employee of the month

I have been working at Petco part-time

    Pros

The pets that come to the store

    Cons

No hours, Morale is low, Management always complains about someone or something

    Advice to Management

Stop talking about employees behind there back and do your job. Stop complaining and help the staff
