I have been working at Petco full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Amazing place to work especially if you are a fan of pets!

    Cons

    Employ a streamlined training regimen.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing. I love that it stays fresh and is always updated and never seems stale or stagnant.

I have been working at Petco full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

New employees get 15 days of Paid Time Off if they average more than 20 hours per week. This increases to 18 days after 5 years. Management gets bonuses based on how well your store has done.

    Cons

Pay Ranges and plans don't always make sense. A store right down the road could be a higher pay plan meaning everyone there gets paid more. Pay is generally lower than other places.

    Advice to Management

    Increase pay across the board.

I have been working at Petco part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very passionate about animals and the human bond with companion animals.

    Cons

Not a great pay for the amount of work. Had to get a second job to fill in pay difference.

    Advice to Management

Let there be more full time sales associate positions at store locations.

I worked at Petco full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The hours aren't bad and the customers and pets can be really sweet.

    Cons

I can only speak from my own experience, but this company and this particular location is run by people who are only looking out for themselves. The management was in constant rotation for a while and they always seemed to be power hungry people who mistreated everyone because they were managers. The managers changed hours and schedules at the drop of a dime and would hold you accountable, by writing you up or cutting your hours. The management started rumors and spread gossip and for some reason, it takes a miracle to get these people removed from the company. Instead, Petco wound just ship them to another store and make them someone else's problem. Needless to say, that's how our store got so many bad apples.

    Advice to Management

Be professional and stop using your authority to bully people

I have been working at Petco full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The company has been experiencing growing pains but appears to be heading in the right direction.

    Cons

The company has been transitioning this past year by adding background checks to their employment applications. These background checks are inconsistent and bias based on the "flavor of the day" interpretation. How can two background checks within four months, with the exact information place an employee on paid suspension?

    Advice to Management

Consistency with background checks is the responsibility of Petco. Review your processes as it relates to an average background check in the retail industry which normally consists of a background check as it relates to criminal activity.
