Design Department is a "Their way or the highway" mentality...

    Pros

Bring Pets to work. Coworkers are awesome. Occasional community activities with partners. Flexible schedule. Decent vacation time. Casual work attire.

    Cons

Upper management is a joke. They lie, gossip, threaten and proactively work to alienate their best workers if you don't fit their "mold". You can forget about about any help, assistance or training. They don't encourage you to better yourself. They would much rather you be a mindless, accommodating robot to do anything and everything at their beckon will. New ideas or concepts are immediately shot down if you don't have "Sr" before your title or "Manager, Director, VP" after it. They expect you to have ridiculous standards met and if you don't you are berated and dressed down until you can't stand it anymore and end up quitting. Raises are even more of a joke. You might as well go searching for pennies in the parking lot because that'll be what you get. Also, don't expect any promotions from within the team. Management never thinks you're good enough, regardless of your talents or years with the company. Pretty much overall this is a horrible company to work for, especially if you want to make something of yourself. You'll never go anywhere or learn anything new unless you know somebody who knows somebody. Talent and dedication will get you nowhere.

    Complete Nightmare - Headquarters

    Pros

Bring your pets to work, new building. That is literally it, hard to find something positive so I’ll just keep it at that.

    Cons

Leadership is absolutely terrible, and the headquarters culture is a total nightmare. The building is full of terribly depressed people. There is no strategy at all and no one believes in the digital revolution. It’s the next Circuit City, Sears etc.

    Pros

You get to bring your pet to work. Great coworkers. The company as a whole is a great place, lots a fun activities that involve the whole company.

    Cons

Management treats team like workhorses. Long hours, pressure to go faster, Sometimes Managment literally standing behind your back while you work on finishing something for them. The store design managers are rude and talk terrible to the employees. It was such a nice place when I first started at Petco but then it because a CAD factory with no real appreciation.

    Pros

+ You can bring your pets to work

    Cons

    - Leadership (Micro Managers all the way up to the CEO, Finger Pointing, Lack of Accountability) - Lack of clear strategy vision (changes with the wind) - Culture (Finger pointing, leadership thinks there's a 'talent issue' and takes no accountability for culture, nobody is held accountable, execs take bonuses in years when bonuses aren't handed out to anybody, lack of career coaching, advancement, leadership wants minions/doers, not thinkers or people that will challenge their thinking) - 5-10 people have been quitting a week for the past 2+ months, including high potential talent - They don't understand what it means to be an Omni channel retailer and the importance of .com (decisions are made in silos to drive margin vs what's right for the customer) - Slow pace and the amount of time and rigor it takes to move something simple forward because of the bureaucracy is mind blowing (CEO likes to be involved in minute decisions vs spending time and efforts setting clear strategy and engaging and inspiring the team) - Talent is an after thought and they restructure 1-2 times a year to get rid of the "bad talent" so continual layoffs happen because they can't get it right

    Vicious Cycle...

    Pros

Employee Discount (20% on most, varied promotional discounts at increased rate). Allowed to bring pets to work (provided they pass an assessment).

    Cons

Layoffs every 11 months (last round was 180 at the start of 2017, previously 50 in 2016). No job security. Numerous jobs being relocated to San Diego. Benefits are absolutely terrible - huge premiums, HRAs rollovers from previous take year take 6 months to actually rollover into the current year. Volunteer activities and groups have been disbanded.
