I have been working at PetroTel (More than a year)

    Pros

It is a great learning environment where employees care about your progress and whether or not you enjoy your job.

    Cons

I had to commute 45 minutes to get to work, but it was well worth the incredible opportunity.

I worked at PetroTel full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    -International Opportunities.
    -Interesting work material.
    -Some very knowledgeable employees.

    Cons

-Despite an employee being an expert in a certain field, management will constantly disregard expertise to fit their opinions.
-No external training. Internal training occasionally offered.
-Extremely harsh comp-time policies for field employees.
    -Management completely disconnected from employees.
-Management is very secretive and constantly withholds information from employees that could be used to overall advance the company.
-Employee contract not shown until after employment offer has been accepted, and will not be provided at any time afterwards.
-Pay is well below industry standard (even before downturn).
-Very little exposure to industry standard software. Outdated and broken in-house software is used for mostly everything.
-Penny pinching around every corner (even before downturn).
    -No HR department.

This company has much potential to be an excellent workplace, but management is stubborn and over-controlling in nearly every sense. They take advantage of salaried employees by over-working them in the field with no time-off or monetary compensation.

Part of being in a small start-up environment, is that you have the opportunity to create a work culture that is out of the box: fun, recognizes and celebrates its employees, and there would be more leeway compared with large corporation. Unfortunately Petrotel does not take that opportunity to create this environment for their employees. Instead, employee morale was very low, management was secretive about everything and did not communicate with employees.

    Advice to Management

Adhere to industry standards. Conduct anonymous employee satisfaction surveys. Hire an HR professional who can take the company to the next level of employee engagement and morale.

I have been working at PetroTel full-time

    Pros

Only good part in working for this company is its location being in suburb, good housing is available within few minutes of drive.

    Cons

In the last 1 year itself, more than 20% employees have left the company - all experienced. Many jobs require to work at client site, some domestic but mostly at international places as per client schedule. Junior employees are forced to stay at international client location for months. Prospect for growth is next to nil. No external training. Many good mentors have already left the company. The employment contract is very harsh and will be shown only after joining. The company is family owned and family centric. Lower pay than market average for similar job and experience.

I have been working at PetroTel full-time

    Pros

A very friendly work environment with great mentoring by some of the best experts in the industry. The company provides competitive benefits with some great upside potential that would not be available in a major. There is a diverse mix of projects and staff gets the chance to gain great experience worldwide. This is the only place where fresh graduates can work and learn on real projects from Day 1. The opportunities you are given are tremendous if you are proactive. There is a diverse mix of people and a chance to learn from everyone. The management is very understanding and accommodating, if you are sincere. Overall, working at this place can truly advance your career by leaps and bounds and provide truly complete job satisfaction.

    Cons

None. Working here has been the best career decision!
