I worked at Petrobras full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There are a lot of huge and challenging projects, making Petrobras an excellent field for learning and develop new ideas.

Most leaders are affraid to change the way things are done, so it's hard to find cooperation when you see an opportunity to improve a process even if it would be done to reduce costs.

    Advice to Management

Petrobras projects are too expensive. The Engineering projects leaders should have open minds and act as, for example, the researches for Pre-Salt Layer drilling leaders area, cause they are focused in innovation, not on finishing projects.

Company cannot fire employees, makes it full of employees who don't carry their own weight. Managers become complacent and occupy same positions without drive for 20-30 years. Every decision must run through higher management. Lack of accountability.

    Advice to Management

Bigger organizations are difficult to run, especially when controlled by government, but there must be effort to make people accountable to their decisions and commitments.
