I have been working at Pets at Home for more than a year

    Pros

Being with animals and some of the customers

    Cons

Awful management, I’ve never seen or heard worse. Don’t care for the pets as much as they claim.

    Advice to Management

Look up the definition of manager, then act accordingly!

I have been working at Pets at Home part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Days off away from the place

    Cons

Management wasnt the best but now we have a new boss it's unbearable. We were warned about her before she came and it's unbearable. She has no care in pet welfare at all. She is an outright bully always throwing out threats. Nothing matters to her other than saving the company money and making the place look uniform . Pets are last on her list. She has her little buddies but in all honesty, no one likes her. She and another were heard talking about the colleagues in the office and it was disgusting. Do they not know we can hear them or do they not care. She has also been caught sneaking about the shop floor listening to colleagues talking. Is she scared that we might be talking about her? I can't see me staying here for much longer as also a few others. This shop has a nasty atmosphere . I think she has a personality disorder . Paranoid and sly

I worked at Pets at Home for less than a year

    Pros

Tiny amount of time with animals

    Cons

9 hours per day with 1 hour lunch. No 15 min break as in contract..refused when asked. Shelf stacking 99% of time. Not even a box of chocolates as thank you after 2 weeks full time unpaid work.

    Advice to Management

Review policy of those doing work experience.

I have been working at Pets at Home part-time for more than a year

    Pros

I like working for pets at home because my store team of colleagues are all friendly they we have a great laugh and find out interesting information from customers and colleagues

    Cons

Quit long shifts on the tills sometimes like the other day I was doing a 9-1 shift and got left on till for that amount of time when both managers were doing the delivery and the other 2 colleagues were doing animals when I could of had 2 hours on till and then the other 2 hours of my shift I could of done delivery because it is a simple task for anyone to do

    Advice to Management

Share the till time out equally

I worked at Pets at Home part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Animal welfare once in shop was of a good standard.

    Cons

Hours wasted 'facing up' which were not paid, on average 4-6 hours each week. Dis organised management. Holiday hours were crammed into 2 40 hour weeks (normally worked 20 hours per week) so that no other holiday time could be taken. Rather sexist environment, found shift allocations were given to males before females. The way animals are delivered into store is below welfare standards and law, as it does not meet the Five Freedoms. (Which is why this delivery was always very early hours).

    Advice to Management

Very unprofessional environment to work in. Managment need to do work wherever is needed. Our store manager would not do anything that he thought was 'below him', which left a delivery of live fish for 7 hours around the back of the store, waiting for an AM to sort it. And Pets at Home will know this is not acceptable as they are aware of the conditions that the fish are in upon delivery.
