I have been working at Pharmaca part-time for less than a year

    Pros

The clientele is interested in complimentary alternative medicine, store staff is knowledgeable about nutritional support and herbal remedies. Specialty compounding is available for humans and pets. Santa Fe store is the most active location with interesting patients. Trader Joes next door helps with food availability for lunch. Inventory management system allows for automatic re-ordering and low par levels on... inventory. Finger print scanner system works well for verifications in EPS software. Front store has health and wellness products with knowledgeable practitioners (herbalists, acupuncturists, cosmetologists) available for collaboration with the pharmacist.

    Cons

Staffing is deficient due to payroll having to be cut. Unless you are full-time, minimal PRN shifts are available. Staffing with one tech on weekends can make good customer service difficult. Lunch and bio breaks are limited to 5 minutes as it can be busy at the Santa Fe location. ABQ store necessitates bringing lunch and snacks as you cannot leave the pharmacy in a 10-hour shift.

    Advice to Management

Slower store in Albuquerque needs outreach and promotion or move to a more accessible location. Staffing has to be adequate so it does not become a CVS with deficient staffing with the pharmacist working alone with no tech most of the time.

I worked at Pharmaca full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great products, decent discount and fellow coworkers who are passionate about health and wellness. Opportunities to learn from many great vendors.

    Cons

It is retail, of course, so a practitioner's passion is often squashed as you will be kept busy as a cashier, stock person, bathroom cleaner, etc. and they seem to care more about shelf stocking than providing excellent customer service, despite what they portray. Recommend to a friend? That is so subjective. Entry level or part time , sure

    Advice to Management

Read other posts above as I completely agree.

I have been working at Pharmaca part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great people to work with - professionals who are passionate about health and wellness.

    Cons

The amount of labor hours allocated to stores is ridiculously low. It's impossible to get tasks done in a timely manner and customer service goes downhill as a result. The amount they pay is definitely not worth the stress of working here. Everyone who works in my store is completely overqualified and I feel Pharmaca takes advantage of this by paying a wage that is not livable. They should consider doing what... People's Pharmacy in Austin, TX does and offer practitioners an office and ability to schedule consults in store. It's a win-win for both. There wouldn't be as much turnover if staff could supplement their income with consults. The store would benefit because there would be more recommendations of products that clients/patients could purchase directly in the store after their consult.

    Advice to Management

Take some time to understand what actually occurs in stores and recognize that in order to provide excellent customer service, more bodies are needed on any given shift. These new labor cuts will undermine what you're trying to achieve and the stores will suffer as a result.

    I worked at Pharmaca

    Pros

Decent health coverage, discount on retail merchandise

    Cons

Barely get paid, high turn over rate in management, they hire healthcare practitioners as window dressing and use them to perform standard retail operations (e.g. Clean bathrooms, receive products, customer service)

    Advice to Management

Pay your employees a living wage

I worked at Pharmaca full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Most of the employees work very hard to make the concept of integrative healthcare at the pharmacy level succeed. Many practitioners and some in the pharmacies are amazing in their efforts to help the customers as best they can.

    Cons

The poor guidance by the upper management level of the prescription departments makes Pharmaca nothing but CVS with a pretty face. The pressure by pharmacy management/home office to provide great customer service in spite of terrible IT services/programs and continued labor reductions.is beyond ridiculous; it is actually dangerous. Finally decided to move on as I didn't want to risk my pharmacy license by... continuing to work there.

    Advice to Management

New CEO needs to shake up the pharmacy division by getting rid of the outdated pharmacy management and find someone with fresh ideas. Someone who does not bully the pharmacists and technicians. Also need a more robust IT program and support. A lot of those employees have left in droves too.
