I have been working at Pharmacyclics full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Access to various experience working on a very active drug in advanced B-cell malignancies. Getting the opportunity to work on Imbruvica is fabulous given how active it is across B-cell malignancies.

    Cons

Lack of formal onboarding and training for new employees, also lack of formal processes and structure . The major definite con is that Imbruvica represents the entire pipeline and they are starting to lose talent because they aren't tapping into Abbvie's pipeline

    Advice to Management

More leadership training for executive team

    Pros

Every company goes through changes and I see this happening at this company. They are working with process improvements and that's a positive!

    Cons

Too many aggressive, negative, ex-employees that were unhappy, making this a negative environment. Good the change made them leave.

    Advice to Management

Continue to expand and grow positively.

I have been working at Pharmacyclics full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    My manager, and their manager.
My depts Leadership is committed to change even though other groups lag behind.
In all fairness, I look around and there's not much difference than with other companies with similar challenges. (Many Glassdoor remarks are exaggerated or just not that apparent).
Upgrades in Quality systems are making a difference

    Cons

Yes, there are some bad Depts.
and not are bad (So be candid and ask the obvious questions during the interview with your manager).

    Advice to Management

    Glassdoor noise- don't pay attention.

    Pros

Drug. CDM Leadership and CDM Team. I would have stayed but for the cost of living in the Bay Area. Current leadership doesn't care about OT levels.

    Cons

Can be long hours, tough if you have a family. Single with no kids employees or employees who like to escape their families lack understanding that spending time with family is more important than work. Small group of career saboteurs whose only job skill is looking to blame people is probably what can account for the very bad reviews. Identify them quickly and let them know you won't be pushed around and they will cower when confronted directly. Also transition to new ownership is always bumpy in the best of circumstances.

    Advice to Management

Watch the CDM team and see how it is done, with positive attitude, mutual support, willingness to intelligently disagree without holding grudges, how not to be a workaholic and still be highly productive.

I worked at Pharmacyclics as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Hiring manager and co-workers were excellent. Projects were very stimulating and rewarding. The company really cared about setting up a good internship program, so there was a lot of support that came from around the company in that regard.

    Cons

Definitely noticed that the culture is a work in progress. There are a lot of changes going on since the company was acquired. Expectations for interns was pretty uneven across the board, so your experience really depended on who your manager was.

    Advice to Management

Work on creating stability within the company and try to increase transparency with respect to future plans.

    Cons

workload is up and down, there are some period you have to really work hard, and down time you can enjoy the slower pace at work, overall is acceptable

I have been working at Pharmacyclics full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The acquisition by AbbVie brought deeper pockets, expanded capabilities, new standards in the Ways We Work to address the expectations of how we treat each other while we deliver for the business, Erik von Borcke, who is a great forward-thinking and thoughtful leader, new Benefits to be more competitive in the SF Bay Area

    Cons

While the Senior leadership have made changes in how they communicate to employees and started to set a better example middle management has struggled to keep up with the change that is expected. So, there are some leaders who are still violators and are not the most respectful or professional.

    Advice to Management

Stay this new course - listen to Erik, treat people professionally and hold your middle management team accountable to these new expectations.
