I worked at Pharsight full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

A relatively small company with two main business units: A software focused group that offers some of the best PK and pop PK software in the pharmaceutical industry, and a services group that provides regulatory quality services in the areas of PK, popPK and modeling and simulation. A lot of innovative thinking. Great experience for someone fresh out of school.

    Cons

Corporate structure changed when Pharsight was purchased by an investment group. A lot of the senior modeling and simulation consultants left and started their own consulting groups. The services group operates as a CRO to pharma companies so suffers from the same stresses as all of these organizations.

I worked at Pharsight full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

A good environment for a first or second position. Whether on the Software or Consulting side of the business you will be exposed to a variety of projects which will give you a well rounded base from which to begin your career.

    Cons

With ownership by private equity the focus is heavy on near term financials and less on building great product or services - this is not to say that Pharsight does not have good products but that these are becoming legacy products.

I worked at Pharsight full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great people with many diverse backgrounds (those who remain)
    Great product
    Flexible work environment

    Cons

Lack of internal recognition of the best talent, hiring new managers to replace proven players instead of moving them up. Knowledge drain due to inability to timely replace departing resources.
Company run as lean as a new Start but established in marketplace, seemingly to make the most $$ for the VC that took over majority shares.

    Advice to Management

Get past the denial, the time for actions is almost past. Recognize that you have frittered away some of the best talent available. Don't let favor of the month/year manager make devastating changes and then move on making it seem like change occurred.

I have been working at Pharsight full-time

    Pros

Great people to work with and decent pay/benefits, flexible

    Cons

No path for professional development, stagnation in terms of personal and professional growth. Little to no track for advancement, almost always hire from outside for positions despite work experience within the company and appropriate skill set. Due to buy out by venture capital firm, management and company focus purely on bottom dollar as opposed to well being of employees. No incentives or bonuses for hard work. Hard time keeping good employees due to all of the above, so frequently in flux

    Advice to Management

Stop focusing on quick pay outs and build upon a model of successful long term growth through sound business practices and products. Take better care of your employees

I worked at Pharsight full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

A relatively small company with software and services offerings. Both divisions work with the largest pharmaceutical and biotech companies in the world. Good training ground for relatively new graduates.

    Cons

Since the merger and transition to Certara the company has had a lot of turnover. The IT offerings are still some of the best in the market but the pace of work can be daunting.

    Advice to Management

Revenue targets continue to steer this ship. This is a company that could benefit from more modest revenue targets and a focus on getting its feet firmly on the ground.
