I have been working at Philips full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Philips has a good starting wage and nice additional benefits. The culture is a mix between (easy-going) Dutch and (high-performance) USA.

    Cons

Like any big company, you need to know your way around

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work!

I worked at Philips as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

    - great on CV
    - much learning by doing
    - beautiful office building (Amsterdam HQ)
    - sufficient work-life balance

    Cons

    - much hierarchy and politics
    - IT is dominated by mid-aged men
    - rigid processes and little hearing for new ideas
    - no guidance from HR regarding career planning, benefits, etc.
    - position labelled "talent program" didn't offer any guidance/ mentoring/ training
    - although rotation was initially discussed, it was difficult to change to a better position
    - initial salary was less than stated in vacancy and not negotiable
    - two one-year contracts before offered a permanent position (which had to be offered by law)
    - after changing to better role, again a salary was offered that didn't match the role on pay scale
    - sterile environment, not much fun

    Advice to Management

    Invest in early talent.

I worked at Philips full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Philips has an amazing tradition in innovation and continues to attract top people in Europe

    Cons

Philips has been a shrinking company for years and the top leadership completely lacks the entrepreneurial spirit to change this. The people who could lead the company back to growth all leave before reaching senior level roles, the culture does not allow these people to be successful.

    Advice to Management

Bring in outside top management that can reinvent the company.

I have been working at Philips as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

I am really part of the overall team, my input is taken seriously, access to speak with higher management, open mentality, helpful people, very international, involved in a lot e.g. allowed to facilitate workshops for managers myself

    Cons

Almost no holidays, which can be troublesome if you need time off for business-courses/job interviews, etc. Intern activities are not well visited and I would like to see more informal drinks or events together (on Friday most people are working from home)

    Pros

    Good salary
    Good, predictable career progress opportunities
    Very international work environment
In general, capable and experienced people

    Cons

    Too beurocratic and risk averse
Compliance and risk mgmt are HOT at Philips - a bit too much
Culture is a bit boring (stability over excitement)
Not really any perks or benefits unless at a very senior level

    Advice to Management

it is not all business, don't forget to play
