I worked at Philips full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Can be relaxed work place
    Work-life balance
    Average salary

    Cons

Lack of quality in the team , they don't do any unit tests or functional testing, encouraging stitching , and hacking to claim features and meet deadlines.

Chaotic team planning or during stand up .
Use a legacy technology stacks (like ten years old)
Lack of diversity , most of the team is from India

If you are a software engineer looking for a quality & exciting place then look elsewhere.

    Advice to Management

Hire talented software engineers, and experienced managers, you have a good idea for health-care software , but really poor implementation (design, coding, testing) that lacks quality with many defects , look for diversity, why all the current team is from India .

I have been working at Philips full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

They seem like they care for a large corporation about their employees.
A lot of divisions feel like a lot smaller company.

    Cons

Goals for particular quarter seem to overshadow bigger picture .
Because Philips buys promising companies they tend to not to intrude with polices or work procedures. From division to division one might run equally efficient and the others a riding the backs of the most hard working employees.

    Advice to Management

Quarter goals are important but not on the expense of customers and employees. Sometimes you might just have to fail.

I have been working at Philips full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Benefits are nice.
Healthcare and technology opportunities are great. There are so many potential ways this can be exploited that I feel giddy about it.
The company sits on a huge amount of data in healthcare and personal health that can be mined if we work as a team.

    Cons

The company at each business unit level needs a clear strategy. It feels like we are grasping for things in the dark.

It feels that nepotism and favoritism is rife. At our location, every person they hire is from the office in from Israel or former Toshiba employees at the higher level. At the lower level, they
keep bringing in team members from the offices in India who get locked in because of L1 visa issues based on what I understand.

It is not a dynamic culture. The silicon valley vibe is missing and the experience is a bit jaded.

    Advice to Management

It is important that we as a company take big risks and bet on some big ideas. When I joined the company, I felt that we could realize the potential to make difference in people's live, but it doesn't feel that way. Help me to feel better about my career choice, please!

Current Intern - Customer Service Representative in Foster City, CA

I have been working at Philips as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

2 years as a contracted employee. Great people to work with. Team members are very helpful.

    Cons

Too many managers - System applications change constantly - No IT onsite to assist on installing new applications - Need to follow email instructions to implement applications - Help Desk is located offshore, they cannot help with the phone issues. No New Hire training program in place for any position - Will need to sit with multiple agents and take lots of notes during training. Too many required online tutorials that have to be taken, they do not always pertain to current job. No pay increase during 2 years of contract employment. Contract employees do not get hired as direct.

    Advice to Management

None - they will not listen to contract employees

    Cons

They don't want to listen to you and never satisfied with what you say....they are all old age people 15-18 years of work ex and definitely not a place for new people.
