I worked at Philips full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The benefits, health, dental, vision and 401k are very good. Co-workers are like family, a positive group.

    Cons

Upper management is disconnected from the day to day challenges and affects of the changes they have made. Communication between departments is poor. Future direction is not clearly defined or communicated which causes anxiety and dissatisfaction with the job.

    Advice to Management

    Please communicate with the employees.

I worked at Philips full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Philips is a giant corporation with many avenues of opportunity for those that are willing to align their personal goals and objectives with those of the organization.

    Cons

Philips is a giant corporation that is established in ways of working that can limit creativity. The management structure dictates that individuals align with them or perish.

    Advice to Management

Recognize that individuals bring talent and ideas which may differ from yours. Be brave and listen to someone other than your chain of command. They may have a fresh insight that will lead to success.

I worked at Philips full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great benefits including some maternity leave
Lots of room for movement and growth
Being a successful, global corporation meant covering things like classes, travel, tuition, etc.
There were some really great people to work with and for

    Cons

Easy to get bogged down with complicated processes and procedures
Could be hard to feel like you make significant contributions
As with any massive company, you can run into bad managers and frustrating mandates

    Advice to Management

Make sure to remember employee recognition and morale at the US lighting locations. Easy for that group to feel overlooked from a corporate level

I have been working at Philips full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great people. Great division leader. Non-competitive atmosphere. People will stop what they are doing to help you.

    Cons

Minimal customer focus. Mostly focused on justifying every decision to Amsterdam. This requires all hands on deck from Marketing, Sales, Trade Marketing, Category Management. Everyone is focused on creating presentations for the internal teams to justify losses in market share. If we are up in market share, then Amsterdam needs to know why. Maybe it can be applied to other regions. This makes some sense; however, it's a 24/7 mentality, so almost no one puts that same type of emphasis on launching products on time or serving customers.

Opportunities to advance are rare. Most Director level managers come in from Amsterdam or other parts of Europe. Internal promotions for US based employees beyond Sr. Manager are rare.

    Advice to Management

Focus on customer. Greatly reduce all the internal work.

    Pros

    Cons

    Advice to Management

Invest more in employees and not in bottom line. Outsourcing puts a bad taste in current employees mouths as well as customers.

I have been working at Philips full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

We have a great bunch of employers there who take great pride in their work including myself. We are able to meet deadlines imposed by the company.

    Cons

We have been going through a slow period this year so far and outlook seems dim as far as production quotas .

    Advice to Management

We need to get more work to improve employee morale and to keep the business afloat. We have a lot of shortages and misplaced parts that slow production and need some new direction in those areas.

    Pros

Company mission is great and they allow for work-life balance. Salaries are good and so are the benefits.

    Cons

If you are not used to working for a big company, it can be a bit daunting at times.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees more. They are the ones doing the work day in and day out. If your strategy or view for the direction of the company is different, let them know so they don't feel as if they are walking up-hill in sand.
