I have been working at Phoenix House full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Team effort, support, stability, positive environment,
    Professional growth, ethical standards, supervision,
Consistency but also change where needed. Will do whatever is needed to help a staff member or a client.

    Cons

None. Working for non- profit organization is not about
making a huge salary so if that's what your looking for seek private sector. Non- profit has its rewards on a different level.

    Advice to Management

I don't have any advice except to say that the management team at Springfield, MA residential is hardworking,
Open minded and flexible. It's an honor and privilege to learn from them. They want what's best not just for the clients but also for all the staff as well as the organization as a whole. You cannot get any better than that in this field.

    Pros

Very rewarding to see clients make progress in their programs. It was great to get to make differences in their lives, even if sometimes they were small. The only reason I stayed as long as I did was for the them.

    Cons

Many of my co-workers were mentally unstable, culture was very clique-ish, management liked to mocromanage, co-workers (direct staff) were highly unprofessional when interacting with eachother in front of clients, some staff would yell at clients and treat them poorly as if they were in a jail or boot camp, too many people had little to no interest in helping the clients.

    Advice to Management

Mental Health Assessments should be done prior to hiring people.

    Pros

Significantly increased effort to give all a voice in developing/transforming the treatment program; Positive, supportive regional and national senior leadership; clinical transformation and physical facility renovation toward a more effective treatment program and sophisticated beautiful environment; interweaving of upgraded technology into administrative functions -- It's a great time to join the organization

    Cons

Transformative change is challenging -- never a straight line -- this is not really a con, just a reality. It's bumpy and sometimes uncomfortable - but the organization is committed to improving and upgrading as well as offering training opportunities for all staff so that upward mobility in the organization is supported.

I have been working at Phoenix House full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great mission and it use to be a family oriented environment where staff felt comfortable and worked hard together.

    Cons

High turnover including in senior management where staff disappears with no notificaiton. The new HR has limited knowledge and seems unsure on how to communicate or handle certain situations as several of us have spoken to HR already on a daily basis. HR doesn't respond promptly and HR can never give a clear or consistent answer, which shows the new HR's lack of "hands-on" leadership experience. Staff is very skeptical on new HR's abilities based on the actions and comments.

    Advice to Management

Staff including members of management are concerned on the HR support needs of the company. New HR staff does not seem knowledgeable, approachable or able to communicate well. You really need to hire better qualified staff not only in HR, but all areas. Change is good as long as you have new knowledgeable and experienced staff.
