I have been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great company and great people to work with. One of the best jobs I've ever had. Just go in, have fun, and provide excellent customer service.

    Cons

Nothing as far as the work is concerned, but limited work hours is a downside for those who need or want full-time employment.

    Advice to Management

    More full-time opportunities.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

This is great in building customer service skills. It's great for detail oriented people, as there is always something to be doing (organizing pillows, stockroom, etc). Because there is constantly new inventory coming in, you don't get bored

    Cons

There are no full time positions anymore and you get more hours if you open up your availability more

    Advice to Management

Pay skill is extremely low, especially for areas with high cost of living.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time

    Pros

Nice employee discount can be used on top of sale prices.

    Cons

Raises are terrible and non-existent. People who are new hires make more than people who have been there for some time.

    Advice to Management

Work with each of your sales leaders and associates and really get to know them and how they work. Utilize your dedicated employees and cut the ones that are only interested in collecting a paycheck. Compensate your dedicated workers fairly.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

"Cushiony" part-time job. Overall enjoyable customers.

    Cons

Sometimes slow and dull, typical retail work.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits, fun environment, no over time required (usually) great company for anyone in the retail management field. They provide you with tons of problem solving material for any issue that you may encounter. All members of management seem to be "lifers".

    Cons

Late nights for transitions or early mornings, lack of a consistent schedule even for a retail job. Physically exhausting at times. Get ready for a work out! Tons of often redundant and arbitrary policies you have to learn, enforce and abide by. Tons of pressure to sell the pier 1 card and their loyalty program, neither of which seem to rival comparable benefit programs of their competitors.

    Pros

Haven't started yet. However, everyone seems nice. The hiring manager seemed to care about the company, the people, and the culture.

    Cons

I don't have any cons so far because I haven't worked there yet. Application process was cumbersome, but easy. Getting a call back took some time.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Positive, motivating atmosphere that makes work enjoyable. Flexible schedule, opportunity to bonus as a sales lead, and 25% discount.

    Cons

Be prepared to push the credit card. Christmas is insane. Doesn't pay competitively.

    Advice to Management

    Raise base pay.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

In most cases they are very flexible with scheduling especially if you're a student. They offer a 25% employee discount. Also, if you're moving and wish to transfer locations, it's possible!

    Cons

It's hard to advance to higher positions and get promoted. Mandatory weekend availability. Very likey you'll work holidays. If the company doesn't make their goal of sales they cut hours.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time

    Pros

Friendly work environment, surprisingly polite customer base. Over all a really nice place to work for anyone wanting a small padding to their income.

    Cons

Availability of hours makes it difficult for most employees to have this be their only job, so commitment to the company can take a hit.

    Advice to Management

Authorization for employees to work more than 8 to 20 hours a week would help increase retention.
