I worked at Pier 1 Imports full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Discounts on merchandise and the family atmosphere.

    Cons

The pay and the constant hounding of opening credit cards.

    Advice to Management

Make sure you are placing the right people on the right positions. Great talent goes unnoticed for years because of employing from the outside instead of promoting within.

I worked at Pier 1 Imports part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

General Manager, Melissa, was wonderful to work with and it was a pretty relaxed environment.

    Cons

Work pace is slow and I had to stay in my section (candle) and had to wait for customers to come to me. Some of the managers make you constantly ask the customers about opening up a pier one card, borderline harassment. Not in a position to move up unless you've been there for around 6 years. I knew some people who worked there for almost a decade as an associate

    Cons

The pay; low pay for the level management expertise

    Advice to Management

    Pay according to industry standards

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

"Cushiony" part-time job. Overall enjoyable customers.

    Cons

Sometimes slow and dull, typical retail work.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits, fun environment, no over time required (usually) great company for anyone in the retail management field. They provide you with tons of problem solving material for any issue that you may encounter. All members of management seem to be "lifers".

    Cons

Late nights for transitions or early mornings, lack of a consistent schedule even for a retail job. Physically exhausting at times. Get ready for a work out! Tons of often redundant and arbitrary policies you have to learn, enforce and abide by. Tons of pressure to sell the pier 1 card and their loyalty program, neither of which seem to rival comparable benefit programs of their competitors.

    Pros

Haven't started yet. However, everyone seems nice. The hiring manager seemed to care about the company, the people, and the culture.

    Cons

I don't have any cons so far because I haven't worked there yet. Application process was cumbersome, but easy. Getting a call back took some time.

    Pros

Fun co workers, treat employees extremely fair, great benefits

    Cons

    Sometimes managers demanded too much

    Advice to Management

Be more thoughtful of employees when scheduling and time off requests.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

In most cases they are very flexible with scheduling especially if you're a student. They offer a 25% employee discount. Also, if you're moving and wish to transfer locations, it's possible!

    Cons

It's hard to advance to higher positions and get promoted. Mandatory weekend availability. Very likey you'll work holidays. If the company doesn't make their goal of sales they cut hours.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time

    Pros

Friendly work environment, surprisingly polite customer base. Over all a really nice place to work for anyone wanting a small padding to their income.

    Cons

Availability of hours makes it difficult for most employees to have this be their only job, so commitment to the company can take a hit.

    Advice to Management

Authorization for employees to work more than 8 to 20 hours a week would help increase retention.
