    Pros

    Good insurance. That is all.

    Cons

Very hard work. Unloading trucks . Climbing 12 ft ladders to put up and take down product. Working till 11 or 12 at night. Back at 8am . No life work balance.

    Advice to Management

Be honest during interviews. Tell that it is very hard work.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Meeting great people and keeping those relationships. The discount is great and benefits with using the credit card. They have stock options and 401k

    Cons

Hiring is a full time job when you can't pay talented associates and you have to hire incompetent people. It's like working in a sweat shop. Being on salary in this brand is a horrible idea and no idea how they can do that in California

    Advice to Management

Pay the associates with a competitive wage so you can retain and develop talent!

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Fun customers, good atmosphere and music, fun products, employee discount is 25% including sale and clearance items, closed on thanksgiving

    Cons

Favoritism, hard physical labor, low pay, very few incentives to perform, no advancement opportunities. No performance reviews, lack of feedback.

    Advice to Management

Be more flexible to help achieve work-life balance, more feedback and follow through on reviews and reprimands.

I worked at Pier 1 Imports part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The only pro was that I learned how to use new software and Learned how to build furniture.

    Cons

Extreme micro managing. Our store had a huge turnover rate. Manager breathing down neck. Extremely pushy with sales. I was told to mention the rewards card three times to each customer. 3 times is over the top, especially since you are not getting any commission to sell. Training was terrible. I didn't even finish the computer training course before being thrown on to the sales floor. I did not feel like we were a team. If you enjoy the pressure of selling, then maybe you will do good here.

    Advice to Management

    No micro managing.

    Pros

The discount is great, and some of the coworkers were wonderful. Also good with time off.

    Cons

The entire store, except for managers, only got scheduled for 4 hour shifts. Which, if you live farther away, is pointless to come in when you get paid minimum wage.
Also, there is not enough things to do to keep yourself occupied when there are not customers in the store, so you're kind of just standing there doing nothing. You can only organize pillows so many times.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good place to start retail experience, if you love decorating it's a great place to work, associate discount, 401k (if you make enough to invest in that)

    Cons

Bad pay, unpleasant coworkers, horrible management, only get 8-12 hours a week, manager likes to open credit cards over the phone (big no-no), show no signs of appreciation

    Advice to Management

Show a little more appreciation to your employees.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The only reason to work here is for a discount. Which is still not really that wonderful considering the over priced mark ups.

    Cons

Dont work here!!!! The store manager is very disrespectful. She's constantly on the earpiece walkies breading us and blaming us if no one is buying anything. If she doesn't make sales goals you will pay hell for it and not hear the end of it. She holds no loyalty's for any one who works hard. You better make sure you get a credit card sign up every shift you work. Gossiping is her major bad habit as well.

    Advice to Management

Listen ,listen ,listen!!! If you're getting told how unhappy people are then help fix it..Don't say oh just ignore this ,it will be better eventually! Really???? Who does that?

micro-managing from the corporate office. Support to the field is horrrid

    Advice to Management

Hire true professionals, and don't promote just because they've been with the company for a long period of time.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time

    Pros

Working with the customers, fun coworkers

    Cons

Greedy and supporting organization with unrealistic expectations placed on employees. Low wages high demands. The physical workload placed on the employees is dangerous and should not be allowed. The company has no organizational structure in place. The only focus is sell, sell, sell! Profit, profit, profit! Turnover is high because they burn good employees out. The stock room is completely VOID of any order.
    • Climbing ladders lifting furniture over one's head
    • Lifting boxes that weight up to 100 pounds
    • Stock Rooms are OVER full with merchandise violation of fire code and OSHA safety regulations.
    • Poor equipment to perform job; company is too cheap and greedy to provide necessary functional equipment; ladders, phones, brooms, cleaning supplies, printers, working PCs etc.
    • Only hires part-time employees to avoid costs of benefits
    • Disregard for employee’s safety-health; job requirements and expectations are unrealistic
    • Store floor is crammed with products customers can hardly walk around.
    • Safety laws- no one with a wheelchair would get beyond the doorway
    • Employees are treated like children
    • Bathrooms are rarely cleaned
    • Both Customers & employees trip on items in isles
    • Products damaged because of over ordering of merchandize

    Advice to Management

Start all over, complete redo of your values. RESPECT your employees time and hard work. Refocus your bottom line. Not be so much about Profit and take care of your employees. Hire Stock people only. Stop expecting 60yrs+ woman to climb ladders. Consider location before ordering product. Take pride in your organization and employees. Consider not being so greedy!

    >didn't even train/have you shadow anyone, just throws you out there after computer training and expects you to know everything
