I have been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time

    Pros

The staff is always kind, cooperative, and hard working. You receive a decent amount of hours each week and a fair amount of paid vacation.

    Cons

Management will often make last minute schedule changes without notice. The majority of the staff is older, leaving leaving any heavy lifting or moving of stock to younger employees. Antiquated computer system makes stock management a challenge.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Quality Products: Flexible Working Hours

    Cons

    Unprofessional Managing Operations: Hazardous Environment

    Advice to Management

There have been frequent Accidents, like bleeding fingers, because employees are not trained to use any of the tools and the managers don't show instruction videos. The box cutters are hazardous because they do not have a safety on the razor. Many of the sales associates are asked to get up on a six foot ladder and change light bulbs, which is a managers task. The Managers teach the sales associates to make an emotional connection with the customer in order to sell the product. The emotional connection leads to abuse between some of these managers and was already apparent when I first started the job. Abusive language towards employees and threatening or carrying out physical abuse should never be tolerated in a business setting. It is not inviting to the incoming employees and the result is having a high volume of people who quit within a short period of time after first starting date.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Fun and new merchandise. Have many returning customers, I have been there 8+ years.

    Cons

Very low pay with requirements of the job

    Advice to Management

Track associates productivity and pay accordingly. With new pay raise for all employees it sure don't seem right to the employees who have put time in to all be paid the same.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports (Less than a year)

    Pros

You get to meet some nice people, rewarding to help customers really transform their homes through furniture and decor, store discount of 25%, management makes a point of teaching/coaching frequently to help you progress.

    Cons

Some people can be very negative, which brings down the energy/mood of the other people working. Currently understaffed, causing a lot of stress (trying to fix that), haven't gotten much actual management training due to staffing issues.

    Pros

I've had some of the best managers I've ever had at Pier 1. They truly care about you as an employee. Quick promotions if you're a hard worker.

    Cons

Retail is retail.. which means later nights and weekends. That's just how it is.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It's a fun place to work. Typically all the customers are friendly along with the other sales associates and store managers. Good employee discounts. Easy to work around schedules.

    Cons

Upper management gives no guidance. They expect too much from their sales associates. The only way to hope to advance is by getting customers to enroll in the Pier 1 store credit card. Pay is minimum wage with no commission.

    Advice to Management

Stop treating your associates like you pay them $100K/year. Give better guidance on how things need to be run in the store. Give perks to associates if they enroll customers in the P1CC

    Cons

pay rates for associate, can't hire top talent or keep them. Way too many HR hoops to deal with, no support on many levels.

    Advice to Management

pay your field associate and you will maximize sales.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Meeting great people and keeping those relationships. The discount is great and benefits with using the credit card. They have stock options and 401k

    Cons

Hiring is a full time job when you can't pay talented associates and you have to hire incompetent people. It's like working in a sweat shop. Being on salary in this brand is a horrible idea and no idea how they can do that in California

    Advice to Management

Pay the associates with a competitive wage so you can retain and develop talent!
