I have been working at Pike Corporation full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

A great company to work for with many opportunities for growth. The work in engaging and allows for some travel especially during storm season. Company culture is second to none with a strong mix of freedom and guidance from upper management.

    Cons

There is a certain level of manual labor you must perform when starting to get a better understanding for the industry.

    Advice to Management

Continue to expand and take advantage of the opportunities new technologies will bring into the electric utility industry.

I worked at Pike Corporation full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great people, great work environment, challenging work

    Cons

Sometimes the work load is very light, sometimes it seems like there aren't enough hours in the day to get everything done. But honestly, this is pretty normal in this field.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work.

I have been working at Pike Corporation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good work environment. My coworkers are like family.

    Cons

Paid time off and vacation options

    Advice to Management

Be a good steward of this company. Look forward to new opportunities, technologies, and efficiencies, and not backwards to “how it’s always been done.” There will come a day when our profit margins and growth slow down; we will look back to today and either be able to say that we confronted those challenges head on and succeeded or squandered our good fortune, money, and time.

I have been working at Pike Corporation full-time

    Pros

Pike Engineering (UC Synergetic) is good for new graduates looking to get their foot in the door. People say it is a "springboard" to better companies. Beginner engineers stay about a year/year and a half.

    Cons

PTO and Holidays are lacking (lowest in the industry), based on other similar companies. They were able to grandfather their old insurance program so they don't have to comply with minimum current government standards, 401(k) is the lowest among engineering firms and overtime is unpaid.

I worked at Pike Corporation full-time

    Pros

Pretty good benefits, especially if you are hired through staffing agency. Most of the employees are generally pretty nice and helpful, even though you are supposed to be getting help from a “trainer”.

    Cons

They try to keep tabs on your every move( keeping up with your bathroom breaks, .when you take your ALOTTED 15 min breaks etc). They wonder why you are sitting there doing nothing for almost 3 weeks, but don’t even give you a computer or have access to anything until then. They say you can check your phone occasionally but get angry when you do. There is maybe one person that actually knows what they are doing in order to train you, all the other ones looks out for themselves.

I have been working at Pike Corporation full-time

    Pros

The work really isnt that hard, it's just dealing with the weather. If you like a job where you are outdoors and you can cut up while you work youll love it.

    Cons

None really, as long as you know what your signing up for ahead of time.

    Advice to Management

Advance from within. Too many guys hired in as foremen who turned out to be idiots.
